Pros: Marvelous performances, rock solid direction and a fine screenplay. Cons: Downbeat, un-Hollywood mood will alienate some. Others may interpret political/social themes at their will.
John Sturges was a master at making tense westerns, dramas and action films. By the end of the fifties, he already had Bad Day at Black Rock (1955), Gunfight at the O.K Corral (1957) and would make in the sixties The Magnificent ...

I'm takin' him in!

Pros: Great acting, script, tension! Cons: Subject matter is a little adult sided, but a great movie
Truly well acted, well scripted, western, with a tension and emotion filled moments.
I think this might have been Kirk Douglas' best movie. When a man's Indian wife is killed, by the son of his best friend, Kirk has to chose his vengence.
The tension, acting, and dialog all go together, building right to the end. Like High Noon, you just don't know if it is all gonna work out right or not.
Anthony Quinn is no slouch either, and Earl Holliman is hard not to like, but he can sure play a bad guy well. Maybe it's his babyface.
A western that keeps you on the edge of your seat and is equal and maybe greater than 3:10 to Yuma.
