It Feels Like Times Have Changed

by ecn71270 , Jan 26 '02
Pros: Solid acting; Dylan cameo; Peckinpah's direction
Cons: Very cynical tone of the film may not suit all tastes
The legend of Pat Garrett and his notorious outlaw friend-turned-enemy Billy The Kid was a story that "Bloody" Sam Peckinpah had wanted to film a long time. In fact, in his TV writing days in 1957, he had written a screenplay adaptation of Charles...

Not " Knocking on Heaven's door!"

by minifin , Jul 18 '00
Pros: Placing the body on the dead horse
Cons: lack of Widescreen version, DVD and Dts
Based on Pat Garrett's book, this movie is about the similarity between the director Sam Peckinpah, and the infamous young outlaw known as "Billy the Kid."

Other westerns should aspire to be this movie.
by donlongerhaus ,Feb 10 '05
Pros: Acting, Actors, Music, Cinematography, Everything else
Cons: I hear the non-directors (studio) cut is not as good.
I loved this movie. The characters were not overly believable, the pace and plot were not particularly moving, but I love this movie. I only recently caught this flick and after only a few minutes I was drawn in. The score was perfect and the dream-like quality added a dimension somewhat like Paint Your Wagon, but better. I found the characters to be more symbols of the Old West than the sheriff and the outlaw. I thought I got Knockin on Heaven's Door, but i was wrong until I saw it played with Slim Pickens in the background. I'm no movie expert so I can't particularly say why I liked it so much, but I know that I can still see some of the scenes vividly in my mind and hear the soundtrack months after seeing the movie. This movie made me want to make movies.

The Wild Bunch may be Sam Peckinpah's all-around greatest film, but this looser, moodier elegy to the dying frontier is his most poetic. The film empl... More at Barnes & Noble.com
