Pros: The Sunday TV Listing for the Week
    Cons: Dependability

Summary: The Herald Leader - often called the Herald Liar here in Lexington, Kentucky gets poor marks on my rating. I've rated it for Accuracy, Dependability, Quality, Community, and Sensationalism. In all these areas the Herald Leader gets poor marks. ... read more

  • A "B" for the Herald-Leader

    Jan 28, 2005 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Diverse, a curious mix of smalltown stories and national political debates
Cons: Rushed reporters misquote. Misspellings happen. It is true for most papers.

Summary: I have lived in seven different towns and cities as well as have traveled extensively. When I travel...and now online...I read the local newspapers. Having lived in Lexington, KY, now for 14 years, I would overall give the Lexington Herald-Leader a ... read more

  • Lex Herald-Leader

    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Accurate, up to date information, good journalists/reporting
Cons: Some punctuation and grammatical errors, but nothing too bad.

Summary: First of all, I've lived in Lexington most all of my life. I read the newspaper and we criticize daily in my English/Lit class the correctness of grammar, etc. in newspapers all over the country. That is the only reason that I noticed that there are ... read more

  • So what if it leans to the left...

    Sep 13, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: decent technology section, good design, covers Appalachia pretty well, liberal
Cons: Mediocre writers, inaccuracies, typos, etc., way too little international and "hard hitting" news, liberal

Summary: For as long as I can remember the Herald-Leader has been getting dissed for one reason or another. The usual beef is that it is "too liberal." Never mind the regular "Faith and Values" section or featuring Limbaugh-esque columnist, ... read more

  • Shake it to the left .. and you shake it to the ... left ...

    Jul 3, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Local coverage and writers are fantastic
Cons: The editorial board is far too liberal for its own good

Summary: The Lexington Herald-Leader is not a bad newspaper, but it certainly has its glaring spots. Overall, it does a more than fair job at delivering impartial news articles which cause the readers to think. But, perhaps the worst (and ... read more

  • Biggest Polititian Paper around

    Jan 22, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: NONE
    Cons: Where is the news

Summary: I have lived in Kentucky for over 20 years in the Lexington area. This is the biggest waste of paper that I have ever seen. If it is not about all the corruption in the lexington area or about there losing ball teams. To think that there are alot of ... read more

  • Bubble gum journalism and leftist propaganda outlet

    Jan 6, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: good comics section with movies, etc.
    Cons: Biased, bubblegum writing

Summary: I have lived in Kentucky for 7 years and I cannot believe the Herald-Leader. It is what I would call "bubblegum" journalism- lots of "human interest" stories- not enough hard stories. Let me just say this- when the Backstreet Boys ... read more

  • Left Wing Democrat Propaganda

    Dec 20, 1999 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: Good classified section.
    Cons: Left winged bias.

Summary: For all the years that I have lived in Kentucky the Herald-Leader has been a bastion of the corrupted Democratic party in the state of Kentucky. The liberal, left minded editors of the Herald-Leader have consistently dogged and shot down any consertive ... read more

  • Leader Needs Competition

    Dec 19, 1999 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: good for lining cages
Cons: does not serve the community

Summary: Many years ago the Herald Leader became the only choice for a newspaper in and about Lexington. The Lack of competition shows. I have found their prices unreasonable for everything from subscriptions to ads. They will not cooperate on reporting upcoming ... read more

  • Journalism Monopoly at the Worst

    Aug 31, 2004 by

Pros: TV listings. Grocery coupons in Color.
Cons: No regard for Facts. No research of evidence. Proposes absolute nonsense.

Summary: News reported with little regard for facts. Editorials exhibit extensive ability to stack rotten straw in creating strawmen. The editors long for the 1800's lifestyle of farming with real horse power - but rail that they have to pay the price for 20th ... read more
