Pros: Devotes most of it's writing to the county and local towns of Hackensack New Jersey. Is also available online. Cons: If you do not get a copy early Sunday morning, chances are the store will be out of the Sunday paper.
I grew up reading The Bergen Record. I can remember reading it when I was 7 years old, I have read it while I was serving in the Army in South Carolina and Missouri, and now living in Florida I still read it.
Pros: Good writing and articles; keeps the community well-informed on events and situations around the area Cons: Most of the stories will pertain to only Bergen County
I have to ask myself this question: who actually reads the newspaper for news anymore? In this day in age when the World Wide Web makes it completely accessible to get the news as it is unfolding, what purpose does a newspaper have these days besides ...
Pros: Very good home delivery service. Cons: Way too much emphasis on violent crime and sports.
I had been a subscriber to the Bergen Record for more than 30 years. Recently I cancelled this subscription. This newspaper had become a routine disappointment when I sought to find state or county news or relevant local information. The ...
Pros: Good local coverage and writing Cons: Has to compete in a tight market
The Bergen Record doesn't have it easy. Sure, Bergen County has a pretty decent population, lots of stuff going on, and some major commerce in Hackensack and other towns. But it lies just north of Essex County - home of North Jersey's big paper, the...
Pros: early service, great articles Cons: too many ads
My family has recieved this paper for about the last 5 or 6 years. I have to say that it is a high quality newspaper. It has lots of information and lots of sections. It has a travel section, Local News Section, Business Section, and of coarse Sports...
Without the flyers they`d be doomed by depick ,Aug 30 '08
Pros: The pull -out flyers Cons: I`ll be nice & leave this as is.
I grew up with this paper & even delivered it in my youth.I really didn`t understand the continued interest in this paper until recently. If you are a Democrat you certainly would opt for the far superior NY Times which is easily delivered in the county. If you are a Republican, you wouldnt want to waste your time with yet another left - (very) leaning newspaper. Yes, there is a local section that I suppose is handy if your little Billy gets his picture in it playing with ducks somewhere ,but not much else.In the age of the internet I find all local issues from other sources with greater detail Finally after buying a home in Bergen County I finally realized why this paper is still in business. ...The Flyers!!. Thats it, and only it.I do subscribe to the weekend only paper because the ads/flyers for all the stores have saved me tons of time & money. Bottom line for me , I pull out the flyers on Saturday delivery , give it a quick skim & plop it in the recycle bin.
Politically Biased Newspaper by lesleyag ,Oct 30 '08
Pros: Great if you like lots of ads at the weekend. Cons: Completely biased coverage.
The paper seems unable to keep it's opinions on the opinion page. I hate the expression, but "in the tank" for the Democratic party and Obama in particular, fits the bill. I have had the Record delivered for years off and on. I am canceling my subscription today. Had enough of the Obama hype.
