| Beauregard's Full Review: Wall Street Journal |
I grew up in a household that got local city papers and I never cracked the Wall Street Journal in my childhood. In fact, whenever I saw someone reading it, I'd think them pretentious and trying to look important. What was I thinking?
I began reading the Wall Street Journal occasionally for work a few years ago and began to appreciate the integrity of the stories. But, it wasn't until last year when I started subscribing to it and starting every morning with the Journal, did I come to love it.
How many papers can you describe as leading trends as opposed to just reporting on them? The WSJ seems to print stories about companies that become highly valued, or retail items that become very popular, about 2 or 3 weeks before it happens. Now that's good reading.
And, it's not at all stuffy. The WSJ has a lot of funny stories or off-the-wall ones. Like a story about a sea urchin hunter, or a Cape Cod lunch place owner who employs exchange students. And, the WSJ has stories for all kinds of readers.
-- CEOs who need to read about their competition.
-- A small business owner looking for ideas on how to run his/her business more efficiently.
-- A worker looking for career advice on how to get along with a boss.
-- A high tech worker who wants the details about a new computing trend.
-- A novice investor who needs to know the basics of the stock market.
-- The seasoned investor who wants to be the first to know about a hot company, or an emerging trend.
In summary, I enjoy the Wall Street Journal every morning because I feel smarter after reading it. And reading it comes easy because of the nice mix of styles, and changing columns every day. And, I've learned to look at the WSJ's Weekend section for their movie reviews before any other reviews. All in all, a top notch news experience.
