This is described by the Columbia Journalism Review as the worst newspaper in America.
It is. The worst metro, anyway.
Another reviewer summarized the conservative editorial stance of the paper.
It has been accused of having trouble putting black people on page one and for gay-bashing editorials. These are things most newspapers got over about 25 years ago.
Couple that with its old-fashioned layout (1950s again) and you'll get the picture.
My real trouble with "The Daily Disappointment," however, is its lack of newshole. This is the amount of space a newspaper dedicates to news and is inversely proportional to a newspaper's profits. There is very little in the paper. During the summer of 1999, I had the misfortune of buying the paper and reading it (I know the editor, who was fired in Jan. 2000) to see what he had done. There were six stories in the whole local section. Four were features. I was hard-pressed to find local news in the whole paper.
This is basically because the family runs the paper with high margins and high profits and for their own power, not for good journalism.
Until the ownership philosophy changes, the people of Oklahoma City will be poorly served by their daily newspaper. And that's sad.
