My school recently purchased one of these machines and I have been using it with some regularity for the past few months. At first I was quite impressed; however, I have noticed some problems with this machine recently. I felt that to write a complete review of this product I must list both the good and the bad in order to inform you better. The good parts of this machine certainly do outweigh the negative aspects so therefore this is where I will start my review.
This product from HP is a printer, a color copier and a fax machine all in one. I'm sure that these features coupled together were the reason my school laid out the 800 dollars needed to purchase this machine. It is very convenient for the students to have all of these features at their grasp in one simple machine. This product from HP produces great color photos. The images produced are probably the nicest that I have seen. They are clear , crisp and very sharp. In fact, they are almost poster-type quality. You can copy outstanding images with this machine or you can connect it to your computer(if you have Windows 98) to copy files that you may like. Both of these features work well and the images are of equally great quality. The quality of the photos is 600*3600 dots per inch which tells us how fine the quality can be
Furthermore, the copier is also very quick. It can produce about 10 images in a minute and for those who are making many copies of a document as handouts or for a presentation, this is a very nice feature. It is not fun to press print on the computer and then have to wait several minutes for the image to come out. With this machine, the user will certainly not have these troubles. The images produced can also be magnified up to 200 % at the touch of a button which is also very helpful. Furthermore, faxing is also very easy and I have experienced nothing but quick, reliable service so far.
So now you may be wondering what could possibly be negative about this machine. Well, first of all, legal sized copies are very hard to make. The machine is configured so that the user will have to change the machines settings quite a bit to make a legal copy. This is hard for first time users and is not easily mastered. Furthermore, the resulting images are often hard to fit on one page and often overlap. The user must be a true master or get lucky to come up with high quality images. Furthermore, I have heard from a friend that calling the tech support number when having a problem is not free. This is strange being that the machine is costly already. The user should have a toll free number in which to call in this case. Usually, most major helplines are indeed free, and therefore HP needs to amend this wayward policy.
All in all, though, this is a good machine with many functional capabilities. I would recommend it with only some reservation for use in the home or office.
