Salomon Raid Wind Shoes

At first glance, the Raid Wind is a peculiar looking shoe. Bright colors, odd lacing system and bizarre construction define the shoe, but it's the way the shoe performs that sets it apart. The Raid Wind is designed for adventure races such as the Eco-Challenge and thus, is very lightweight at only 12.6 ounces per pair (less that a pound!). The sole has a fairly aggressive tread pattern, although we've seen better. The shoe handles well in trail-running situations offering ample support and good traction, even on steep rock. This shoe is a great performer, but the lacing system was our favorite part. The lace is a thin, single piece of nylon with a cord lock at the top. No laces to come untied here. Simple slip the shoe on and pull the cord lock tight and go! The laces hold tighter than normal laces, are super-fast, and never loosened while we ran. Overall, we loved the shoe and would recommend it to any serious outdoor athlete. It's the perfect shoe for bagging peaks this summer and at only $100, you can hardly go wrong.
Drawbacks: Without offering a Gore-Tex model, the shoes uses are limited, although the shoes are quick drying.
Salomon's Beta:
Contagrip® CX2 outsole, superior traction on all types of terrain
External Sensifit[TM] system around the middle of the foot keeps the foot from sliding forward in the shoe.
Aramide «quickfit» lacing
system
Heat-molded external counter for keeping the heel in place and heel stability.
Synthetic leather upper and open mesh: lightweight, quick drying and breathable.
