The mountain bike of the century is absolutely, without a doubt, YOUR mountain bike! There is no bike in the world that is better than the one YOU ride. That is because mountain biking is about the experience, the adventure, the thrills, spills and invigoration. As long as you're out there, whether it be on a $4,000 Merlin or a hand-me-down Huffy, you are pedaling on the best mountain bike in the world!
Granted, some mountain bikes perform (much) better than others, and some mountain bikes are (much) more durable than others, but those qualities are inconsequential when it comes right down to determining the mountain bike of the century. All that matters is that you ride whatever rig you have. If you're consistently getting dirt on your tires, wind in your face, and sweat on your brow, you know what I'm talking about.
It's about the feeling you get from mountain biking, not the bike you ride. If you're not psyched about the bike you're riding now, get a new one... one that will psyche you up to get out and ride... one that will be your latest mountain bike of the century.
