Suspension?

I've been riding Mountain bikes for the past 11 years. I started off with a cheap high tensill steel bike and now own a full suspension aluminum specialized. I've owned and road several different styles over the years. The "Suspension" question is no simple. The key to what to buy is going to depend on the type of rider you are and the terrain you intend to cover. If your riding cross-country(up and down hill) then a good front shock with either a stiff rear or no rear shock is probably best for you. The problem with the rear shock is a loss of power while climbing hills. I have a fairly stiff rear shock, but can still feel the power loss during hill climbs. Though the speed it helps me maintain during rough downhills is what keeps me riding full suspension. A soft rear suspension should only be used if the majority of your riding is downhill. If your riding on improved roads then suspension really isn't necessary and wont do much for you other than help you feel cool and spend extra money.
