Consider a good pair of sneakers

I've been in the Marine Reserves and Boy Scouts, so I've done my share of camping and hiking. I've also gone for long walks in the woods and grew up in the sticks (pun intended.) So campers, believe me when I tell you this: instead of boots, you may want to consider a good pair of sneakers. If you hav soft feet, try wearing two pairs of socks.
Boots are fine if you want a specific pair of footwear that you use again and again, if you are going off to combat, or if you are walking on rough, rugged terrain. But for the average weekend camper or nature walker, get yourself a good pair of sneakers because you will be able to feel the ground.
Boots protect the bottom of the foot. That is nice, great, but they are horrible for the ankles in my opinion. Also, if you like to cross fallen trees or have some steep hills to take on, it is hard to keep your balance in some of the boots out there.
If you are going out for a really long stretch, perhaps some hiking boots MAY work. If in doubt, ask an experienced camper. But if you are merely pitching a tent for a couple of days or going for a good walk, wear some sneakers, like most people do who actually live in the backwoods. An extra layer of socks won't hurt either.
