Product Details
On the southern end of the Mississippi and Central Flyways, 32,970-acre Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge is primarily a freshwater marsh. Dense growths of maidencane and bull tongue provide migratory habitat and wintering ground for more than 300,000 ducks and 80,000 geese. The refuge supports many other species. The first nesting colony of cattle egrets outside Florida was discovered here. A nesting rookery of roseate spoonbills, unique to Louisiana, can be found in Lacassine Pool. Watch for armadillos, swamp rabbits, minks, otters, and American alligators.
