Pros: Easy install, very quiet
Cons: None
We upgraded a 250 watt power supply to 350 watts in order to install a power consuming 3-D graphics accelerator board (ATI 9800 Pro - Wow!).
That meant we need to pull out the old supply and install a new, higher capacity supply. Removing and installing power supplies is easy. Unplug the computer from the AC supply. Remove the 4 screws holding the PS in, at the back, and disconnect all the PS connectors inside the computer. Just unplug each one. (Make sure you make a note or take a picture so you do not lose track of the connections, especially if there are many).
Then, slide in the new PS and hook up the connections. Double check everything, and then restore power.
The Antec upgrade was simple, and much to my surprises, the new, higher capacity power supply has a quieter fan (two actually!) than the original equipment power supply it replaced. I was expecting to turn on the new PS and hear a jet engine - boy, was I surprised. Nice and quiet.
