Pros: Cheap
Lightweigt
tiny
sound quality excellent
picture quality very good
huge feature set for price Cons: treat it with tenderness
don't expect pro feel or picture
b/w viewfinder
no remote
I don't know about anyone else's experience with this camera, but I paid $299 for it through some shopping channel. I bought it because it was rated well for sound and was very small. I have used and abused this thing to no end and it works great. ...
Pros: easy to use Cons: (initially) hard to connect to computer, JVC website is hard to navigate
The most important thing. If you want to use this camcorder to upload videos on your computer, you MUST download "picture navigator" available at http://www.jvcservice.com/custrel/download.htm
WOW! X-mas and no camera... just great Bah Humbug by thedukejett ,Dec 19 '05
Pros: How can you have any if it does not work! Cons: NOT dependable at all!!!!
You guessed it, this camcorder that I entrusted to capture our families special times is on the blink!
I went out to some websites today to see if I could find others with this camera who have had the same problem.
To my surprise, there was.
PROBLEM: Camcorder does not record.
When you turn it on to record, it stays dark on the LCD screen as well as the eyepiece.
It also give me the "Lens Cap" is on the camcorder, when it is obviously not!
I have yet to find any cure for this on the web.
We all know what it costs to take these things in to get fixed.
I have hardly spent 15 hrs using this, and to say the very least am greatly let down.
What I hope will happen is that someone from JVC actually surfs these sites to help their customers,,, but I do not think that is the case since the horror stories I have read about JVC's support of their product.
If anyone has any insight to this problem, please let me know.
thanks
Pros: Decent quality. Good Price. Cons: Condensation. Night vision not really practical.
I was generally happy with this camcorder until I started getting a "condensation" message; it won't work with that message. I live in Southern CA so I don't really think we have a lot of humidity and it's annoying to see other people with their cameras out and taping and I'm stuck.
However, when it does/did work it was fine. Decent quality, good price.
Not a bad starter, but the issues are just ridiculous!! by dji117 ,Mar 24 '05
Pros: Price, easily linked via FireWire Cons: grainy picture in dark situations, unreliable, finicky
Well, I've owned this camera for a good 2 years, and overall, I've been somewhat happy with it. The entire power system shorted out and required a repair, a very irritating process.
The picture quality seems to have diminished over the last few years, and even with the heads recently cleaned, new issues are arising. Now, at random intervals, the camera's display becomes very noisy and jumbled, and then it's ok. This doesn't just effect the screens (both the LCD and the veiwfinder show it), as it's very visible on tape.
Working with the camera and a computer has been no hassle, but other than that, this camera is not very well suited to any really good filmmaking work.
Pros: compact, flip out screen, 700x zoom Cons: no computer connection
we got this camera for christmas and we really like it except for the fact that it doesn't connect to the computer. we had to spend extra money on computer stuff to connect it. if i were buying i would spend the extra money for the one that connects. otherwise it is easy to use, and lightweight and compact so we can take it any where. i love the flip out screen so you can see what's going on.
JVC GR-30 will not record by thomasgolfer ,Dec 22 '05
Pros: NONE Cons: DOESN'T WORK
My Camcorder also does not record.
When you turn it on to record, it stays dark on the LCD screen as well as the eyepiece.
It also give me the "Lens Cap" is on the camcorder, when it is obviously not! Also, it does not show a tape count.
Reviewing another forum that had the exact same problem, the reply from someone claiming to be from JVC Service and Support states the CCD is bad. I just called Best Buy, the nearest service center and was quoted a price of $250.00 for the part, not including labor. This Camcorder was my LAST JVC purchase, as I've only used it once.
I purchased the gr-d30. After owning it for 3-1/2 months with very little use, the unit refused to operate or eject the tape. It is displaying an e04 error code. In researching this on the internet, there are a number of folks dealing with this issue on JVC camcorders. The cost for me to send the unit in just for evaluation was going to be $90.00 through JVC since the labor part of the warranty is up. There are a lot complaints on this and I've even been contacted regarding a lawsuit against JVC for this issue. Just be careful what you buy and do your homework.
JVC GR-D33 Mini Digital Camcorder by mjdjd ,Jan 31 '05
Pros: small, inexpensive Cons: transferring images from camera to computer is a real problem
Some of the problems associated with this little camera, such as excessive noise and poor indoor (low light) image quality, appear to have been improved in the current generation (GR-D33). There are, however, good reasons to look elsewhere. First, the camera does not connect to a computer via a USB cable (although other, slightly more expensive JVC digital cameras do so). Second, the camera is promoted as coming with its own software. BUT, the software, made by a company called Pixela, may be incompatible with the camera when using Windows XP home edition. A Pixela rep acknowledged this rather infuriating problem but could only suggest trying to find other software or an older computer that uses Windows 98. A JVC rep claimed that it was unaware of any such problem and suggested that a different DV (firewire) cable may be required but could not say which one would work for sure. Bottom line: look elsewhere; JVC just isn't the company it used to be.
Great entry level camera by santacruzbros ,Feb 03 '06
Pros: Size, Price, Ease of Use, Lighting Adjustments Cons: Night Shots slow frame rate, no still shots to memory card, no ext. mic hookup
If you want a camera that you don't have to worry about much this one is great. It has all of the quality and ease of use as its bigger brothers, but without the cost. It is very small and light, and the flip screen is plenty big. If you want a camera for sports, family functions, or anything else that doesn't require a production level camera, then this is the one for you. It also has the generic fades, as well as some good effects and filters. I hooked it right up to my Mac via firewire, and the capture is very smooth.
Downsides are some minor lag when using the auto focus with digital zoom, and the night shot is very jumpy, about 10-15 frames p/second. No stillshots to memory card, only as a pause in the video. Also no external mic. jack, but internal is VERY sensitive.
Pros: easy to use, clear, crisp videos, great optical zoom, Cons: problem with error message and repairs costly and unreliable
This was a great camera bought 12/2003 and used only for a few family functions. It developed problem--error message saying condensation problem made the camera unworkable. Service costs of $250 and after using camera 2x inside in climate controlled areas--the message is back--and the labor was only guaranteed for 30 days. If JVC ever fixes this problem, it would be a great buy--easy to use, clear, crisp videos, great optical zoom, light weight.
DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY by chrisnalex ,Nov 20 '03
Pros: cost Cons: not reliable
I normally do not write reviews but I feel so strongly about this camera. Please search the web for other unhappy customers, dont just take my advice. The camera is great unless you want to put the movies on the computer. It periodically goes into a safeguard mode, I guess this is a common problem. When it goes into safeguard it will not do anything. I usually just turn it off and on until it works again. Also another issue is the tape eating! I have not experienced this yet but have heard about it alot on the message boards.
