Pros: A wonderful balance of power, durability, size, and price Cons: Flimsy keyboard, Slow RAM
Recently, the time came to buy a new notebook computer. As a good consumer, I began carefully research my options. I read hundreds of reviews on various models from Dell, Toshiba, HP, Sony, and Gateway. What was the result? Confusion and annoyance ...

Pros: Good overall package, lots of things available built right into the laptop. Cons: I don't like Alps touchpads; two different batteries
The Latitude D600 is a very worthy and welcome successor to the C6 series (C600, C610, C640). With only a couple exceptions the D600 is an improvement. The color is very professional-looking; good for impressing all your sales prospects. The ...

Pros: Very light, very fast, Cons: none really.
Although my spare bedroom looks as though it might be the datacenter or a mutlinational company, with desktops, servers and routers piled here and there, I have had the same laptop for about the last 5 years. It was heavy, slow, and about to die a ...

D600 Is A Winner
by themafiagod ,Jun 23 '04
Pros: Well-built, durable; great laptop for the price. Cons: Touchpad is horrible
I needed a laptop for school. I had had a Compaq Armada 110 previously, and it was horrific. I mean absolutely awful. Had I not had a three year warranty, I'd have spent about two grand on repairs. So I got rid of it and bought my Dell Latitude D600. I absolutely love it. I got it upgraded to a 40 GB hard drive with 512 MB of SDRAM. I have a Pentium M processor and am running Windows XP.
It runs fast, and has very few problems. My only complaints are that the rubber feet on the bottom come off too easily and that the screen hinges are a little on the flimsy side. The touchpad is pretty much useless, unfortunately. Luckily the trackball below and to the right of the "G" key is a more than competent replacement.
Dell customer service is very good as well.

Cool notebook, hot left-hand-drive!
by goodals ,Sep 28 '04
Pros: Very light, impressive looks, good performance Cons: Heating up left-hand-drive, rubber bushes in the LCD ends falling off
I liked the D600 no doubts. But, the left-hand-drive (left side hard disk drive) seems to get hotter once we use it for, say 3+ hours continuously. So, every once a while, I put the machine on hibernate mode so the hard drive stops running and this in turn cools down the machine. After some time, I restart working with the machine.

A good laptop
by nueces730 ,Apr 12 '04
Pros: Good processor, clear screen, easy to use, sleek design Cons: cheap keyboard, touchpad problems, battery life isn't long
As I went off to college my parents wanted to get me a reliable laptop and that is what the Latitude D600 turned out to be. Although a little pricey to get the good upgrades it is worth the money. Having seen previous Dell laptops I was skeptical about the screen and performance of the laptop but with this laptop the screen is very clear and the performance is better than my home desktop. The only problem that I have had with the laptop is the keyboard which has some keys that are stuck and don't work too well so I use a USB keyboard. Two other problems are that the battery life is very short and that the touch pad is not too reliable. But this is a problem with many laptops and so it goes with this one. Overall the laptop is fast and has a good amount of memory. I run a lot of applications and video and I haven't had many problems running anything. Overall, it is a good laptop that is mildly high priced but a effective machine.
