Not What Epson Said It Would Be

by swisswolf , Aug 31 '05
Pros: price, pretty good photo quality, separate cartridges.
Cons: inc price, photos dont always turn out as you wanted, photo screen inc bars
I find this printer ok because I live on an island in and there are no printing stores around. The six color printer seems to prove well enough for my point and shoot digital camera but some of the photos don’t come out how I want them to. Meaning ...

DON'T BUY EPSON

by donotbuyepson , Dec 17 '05
Pros: Despite its short shelf life, it does produce beautiful photos.
Cons: Short shelf life, Unhelpful technical support, Difficult and unreliable drivers, Lack of service centers
Printer drivers are always finicky (despite numerous updates). If the printer breaks (which mine did), Epson does not offer 1-800 numbers to call for support. You have to call on your own dime. Also, most states have only a few service centers. ...

R300 Looks Great IF You Can Get It To Work!

by ppstudios , Oct 17 '05
Pros: If it prints, it looks great
Cons: You can't walk away from this printer or it will hang up.
I bought this printer for CDs and DVDs. This printer looks great IF you can get it to work. You can not walk away from it or it will hang up during print at any stage. I can't ever get it to work the first time I turn it on. It pulls in the print ...

Superb Printer!!
by noelyoung ,Aug 02 '04
Pros: Dirt cheap!! fast, quiet, easy to use, inexpensive ink, easy software, great photo printer.
Cons: Doesn't print directly from dx 6490 camera on usb.
Had the 300R for about 2 weeks. Setup was a breeze (just follow the directions). Started right up with glossy 4X6 borderless photos to see if it really was as good as they say, it is. A little tweaking and the prints come out in 22 seconds on the highest settings. Compared my photos to a professional fuji machine, very close in quality but not quite their yet. Although the printer cost $1800 less. Next went to dvd and cd printing. Used my epson perfection scanner for a scan and print. Worked perfect and still working perfect. The better the paper the better the prints. There's no smudging or smearing, printer runs super quiet. Even dumped water on the prints. No smearing. Used epson paper. Went online and found ink 98% less expensive than retail (do a little homework It's easy) Automatic color matching to adobe and all my graphics software. No tweaking. Software super easy to use.

Unreliable product
by kooijman ,Jan 25 '05
Pros: none
Cons: Disappointing quality
Unreliable product. I bought two R300s. After installation the power supply of one of the printers blew itself up almost instantanious. The power cable supplied with the R300 is not ground shielded. The overall impression of the R300 is that it has a rather plastic look and is not solid. Print quality is disappointing, even with Tetenal professional photo printing paper. Printing is expensive with the R300 since the 6 cartridges contain only 13ml of ink each. In the status monitor screen the printer cannot be set to black or color printing. Accordingly, the R300 will always use some of the colors even when printing text. Service and support from Epson is awful. Normally, one would expect them to send a new printer and take the one which is down back. Not Epson: they will let you wait two weeks before they send back a repaired product. I bought HP and Epson printers over the years with equal satisfaction, but I am not even considering to buy Epson in the future if this is their policy concerning service.

Garbage Product and Company
by ironfeik ,Aug 08 '05
Pros: At this point I have none.
Cons: See my review body.
I purchased this printer. It did a nice job for a few months. Then I began to have problems with print quality, and now only prints light magenta. Luckily I'm still under warranty to get it fixed. However, I HAVE TO FOOT THE BILL FOR SHIPPING it out of state to get fixed. In addition, the company I am sending it to didn't exactly sound like they are very sharp over the phone. It will be about $20 to ship it there and back...if they can fix it! Meanwhile I'm out of a printer for who knows how long (I was given no timetable). Dealing with Epson was terrible, I had to pay for the call to California and sit on hold for 20 minutes. I spoke with a couple reps, all were clueless. Avoid this printer, believe me. Avoid Epson, go with a Canon or HP. I greatly regret buying this printer.

Ink is very expensive
by docu6180 ,Jul 01 '05
Pros: Very good eye pleasing quality
Cons: High cost of cartridges, thus I happily refill my own.
This printer is great except for the ink, that`s why I refill my cartridges. I bought the printer at Costco for $109 and it included a cable. So far it has given me excellent output and reliability.

color matching
by tracel2000 ,Dec 04 '04
Pros: Vivid, photo look of prints, prints on CD/DVD's.
Cons: Poor color matching.
I agree with many reviews about the crisp, clear results from this printer. Very High quality.

HOWEVER-- I am having a difficult time with color matching.
I have noticed prints to have more magenta. I have several prints taken with a 6.3 mp digital camera, and the display on the camera and the display on the computer show one thing, but the printer prints a much different looking picture--almost like a totally different picture. No matter how many settings I changed on the printer, the color was still off.

example: the printer prints one picture where the ocean water looks purple, not blue as in the same picture printed from another printer.

However the contrast in the epson is much better. I would really like this printer if the color matching was corrected. I will have to take it back for an HP I guess (although I hate to do that).

I give 3 stars (average)....If color was not an issue I would give 5 Stars (excellent)!

don't buy Epson R300
by chubbychunky ,Jun 02 '05
Pros: nothing
Cons: wastes ink; breaks down; very slow; hard to operate; it's a joke.
the Epson R300 is the worst printer imaginable. It prints very, very slow, it even takes forever to power up. It requires nearly ten separate printing cartridges for around $15 each and they run out FAST! And you cannot print if one runs out, not even black. You are literally enchanged by this hunk of junk to buy more and ink. And on top of all else, it breaks down. Epson has had trouble with this printer even accepting its own print cartridges. It's very temperamental and is a waste of time and a total frustration. I didn't even bother doing the RMA on it when it broke down under warranty. I just threw it away because I didn't want to deal with another. Seriously, do yourself a favor and avoid it! :)

Nice printer but CD printing extremely frustrating
by bubblemusic ,Apr 04 '05
Pros: good performance for standard printing
Cons: Almost makes the "doesn't work" catagory for printing on CDs
Prints great and is nice to have a card reader hooked up to my computer at all times. If you want to print on CDs in quantity I would look elsewhere. I never know when it's going to crash or get stuck or just act weird. How many years has it been out and they still haven't gotten the drivers to work right. It does seem to work a little better now that I'm on Mac OS 10.3. The tech support could be better too.

Excellent Printer! Very Satisfied!!
by crys94 ,Mar 08 '05
Pros: Prints fast, Great price
Cons: Still not professional quality printing, but good enough.
I have used several different inkjet printers and I have to say that this is one of the best ones I came across for consumers. Of course, you're still not going to get professional-looking CDs and photos printed, but it's close enough for the cheap price you pay for this printer! I have printed numerous CD and DVD labels and covers and all my friends are impressed at how great they look. Prints super fast as well!
