Pros: Compact and lightweight; Carrying case with belt clip; Infinite memory expansion; USB compatible; Incredible sound. Cons: Included headphones are too small.
Summary: As some may know, I'll be headed back to Singapore for a visit in December. As no one knows, my old Diamond Rio 300 MP3 player is very outdated, using a proprietary cable to transfer the songs to and from the player.
It was time to look for ... read more

Pros: CF+ Rules. Nice design, sounds great. Cons: Doesn't recharge batteries, Battery door scary.
Summary: I bought this player from DataViz.com for $99 including a 64MB CF card about a year ago. It's worked flawlessly ever since. I very much like the CF+ capacity, though I've only used it with CF Flash cards thus far.
The interface is clear and ... read more

Pros: multiline display, CF card support, 20-hour battery life, great sound, light weight Cons: Frontier Lab released erroneous permanent flash upgrade, weak battery cover, weak belt clip
Summary: Does everything I want it to for my jogging. Have an inexpensive 512mb CF card that I use with the NEXII and I have plenty of songs to choose from. The battery cover fell off sometime and was lost! A probable result of the weak belt clip that sent the ... read more

Pros: Reliability, audio quality, features, display, battery life, handles wide range of compression, resume exact spot Cons: slightly bulky, non-graceful when batteries runs out
Summary: The NexIIe is a wonderful unit for my tastes. I use it for a lot of voice recordings at very low bitrates (16kbps). It plays them flawlessly. Also works great for music mp3's compressed at a wide range of bitrates / samplerates. There is a small ... read more

Pros: price, memory capability, size, stability, customer service Cons: controls, headphones
Summary: I've owned a half dozen mp3 players over the years including an archos 20. The NEX II is the BEST I'VE EVER OWNED. This unit rocks!
1. It uses 2 rechargeable AA batteries. With 4 NiMH AAs and a recharger your upkeep cost is $0.
2. I paid just ... read more

Pros: inexpensive, no skip, expandable, easy to use Cons: included headphones need upgraded, no battery life indicator
Summary: I bought this one to use at the gym. There's been no skipping and the battery life is excellent. It usually gets 8 to 12 hours on one pair of AA.
I bought a 256 MB flash card for it and just have endless songs (don't forget about buying the ... read more

Pros: Lightweight;Use Compact Flash or Microdrives; Drag and drop file transfer. Cons: *Low grade plastic.
*Could really use a FFW fast forward.
Summary: Would I purchase the NEX IIe again if given the chance? Probably not. I could delve into the technicalities at great length, but, what is the bottom line?
Upon first opening the NEX IIe's package I saw the typical modern conglomeration of ... read more

Pros: Upgradeable, uses Compact Flash, big LCD, long battery life Cons: Flimsy battery cover, distortion at max volume, some audio glitches.
Summary: I still havent found the perfect MP3 player, but things are looking up with the new products that are being released almost every other month.
My Samsung Yepp was falling apart; the battery door didnt quite close, the buttons ... read more

Pros: inexpensive, lightweight, easy to travel with Cons: uncomfortable headphones, comes with a very small compact flash card
Summary: I purchased my Nex II off of frontierlabs.com thinking it was going to be some cheesy hollow non-durable mp3 player (what you'd expect when you're paying $109). Little did I know that the Nex II is one of the highest quality mp3 players I've ever seen, ... read more

Pros: Any size of solid state memory up to 1GB. Upgradeable firmware. Cons: Kind of flimsy feeling. Current firmware needs work. Incorrectly reads song length for VBR songs.
Summary: Most importantly it is flexible:
Uses any size CF type 2 compatible solid state memory up to 1GB.
Acts like USB mass storage device (no need for proprietary software to get mp3s onto the device).
Upgradeable firmware
There are ... read more

Pros: Inexpensive, nice if you already have CF cards Cons: Lightweight construction, no playlist support
Summary: NEX II uses Compact Flash cards as it's primary memory, a real boon to those digital camera owners who already own a few or want another use for the IBM microdrive. No CF is included, which is just as well since most electronics that include the ... read more

Pros: CompactFlash flexibility. Plays WMA and MP3. Great sound. Small. Cons: Cheap feel (then again it is cheap). No firmware updates.
Summary: Dec 1, 2003 Update--- The battery door fell off, but overall the player is chugging along even though my fiancee drops it once a week ;-) Unfortunately Frontier Labs has not put out new firmware in over a year, no support for new formats, no support for ... read more

Pros: Sound, price, features, no SDMI protection, battery life, screen, USB HD function, controls, upgradeable, expandable. Cons: Slightly plasticky construction, no custom playlists, weak song selector,
one directory deep support, no FM/recording.
Summary: I'm solidly convinced that the NexII is the best player available for its price for what you get. It's not perfect, by most standards, but it does pretty much everything well, or better than average. Some more expensive packages will give you better ... read more

Pros: Practical, Great Sound, Easy to Use, Jog Button very useful, Great LCD! Cons: Need PlayList Function & Option of Having a A/C Adapter (for transferring)
Summary: I got my Nex II from eBay's mp3player.com. I think mp3player.com is in Canada. I believe they have a branch in the USA also. I'm in Canada and the player arrived in 2 or 3 days at my door step! I'm rather excited to receive the NEX II in the mail. ... read more

Pros: small size, CF cards, AA batteries, battery life Cons: horrible screeching when batteries get low, long before battery indicator shows up, flimsy battery door
Summary: This is the perfect player for me since I only want it for workouts and walks. I already have a bunch of CF cards from my camera, and I already have a bunch of rechargeable AA batteries from the camera also, so for $89 I was all set! The headphones are ... read more
