Pros: Good screen display and computer interface Cons: Buttons are tight; Instruction manual not the best
Calculators have made life much easier for everyone, both students and non- students alike. They quickly compute simple and complex mathematical problems with few if any errors, provided we input correctly. They save us valuable time and ensure greater ...

Pros: HP is back: this is the best there is Cons: cheap feel, lousy PC-only connectivity software, mediocre documentation
I've been an avid user of HP scientific calculators for over a decade. My first HP calculator was the venerable http://www.hpmuseum.org/hp32s.
htm,
which was an excellent machine in a small package. I next purchased a http://www.hpmuseum.org/hp42s.

Pros: Good instruction manual
Easy to see the screen Cons: Buttons difficult to operate.
2 units stopped working within 7 months.
I purchased the HP 49g+ calculator in February of 2004 when I was in need of an advanced calculator for school work. This unit had all of the features I wanted for school as well as many other features that provided added value to the unit. When I ...

Poor quality; questionable results
by illiniwik ,Feb 27 '05
Pros: RPN notation Cons: Repeated problems with quality and reliability
I previously owned an HP 48S for more than a decade. When it finally died, and a replacement was off the market, I switched to the 49G . After a couple of weeks, the screen went blank. It was difficult to get HP to swap it out, but they did. Shortly after getting the new one, part of the plastic frame broke. And now, about 6 months later, I am getting a repeat low battery warning, with new batteries in place. Also, the buttons are tight and often I get the wrong answer and have to key in the equations 3 or 4 times to verify an answer. Not good when doing structural engineering.

Poor product does not live up to HP of the past
by joe_for_news ,May 27 '06
Pros: Powerful calculator with amazing potential. Cons: Poor construction and apparent lack of quality control. Expect mechanical failure with light usage.
I purchased my HP49 in 2004. I had read that early versions had quality control issues, but was given the impression that those had been dealt with. That was not the case. The unit I purchased misses key strokes every 20 or so keystrokes and after 2 years of very light use, the 2-key is rattling loose! I do not have experience with comparable calculators from the competition, but I can't imagine they are worse than this.
