It's a great printer, but not durable, and support is bad.
by k20040101 ,Jan 18 '04
Pros: Good price, print quality is great, easy to use. Cons: Cheap quality chassis, quality is questionable. Bad support.
I've purchased this and the network feature broke in three days. The retail store exchanged with new one without any questions, but now I'm suspecting its quality. Most of computers and parts are cheap these days, but their quality is pretty bad, comparing the quality of products 10 years ago, and it's getting worse.
HP doesn't let you download the driver. They want you to BUY it on CD for $10.00. It's not expensive, but why not just make it downloadable?
Overall printer feature and it works as promised. Quality of scanned photo and print out is exceptional. Fax is great, installation was easy.

If HP put as much effort into software as hardware would be great!
by dingerdingdong ,Aug 15 '04
Pros: Great printer, fantastic function Cons: Software, drivers nightmare
I cannot believe the awful bloated ridiculous software and drivers that come with this machine. I spent 22 of the most frustrating hours on the phone to HP "Support" which is based in India, with consultants who cannot speak English and really don't know much about anything to do with this machine.
At first the only issue I had was how long the installation took and how big the software is. (Service Pack 1 and 2 for Windows XP is smaller!)
Once it was up and running the first time, it was great. Then mysteriously after three days it dropped off the network completely and would not restore.
I completely uninstalled the software and drivers and started again. It installed fine but then a day later, it dropped off again.
This began my journey with HP support. They gave me a firmware fix that was 345MB!! which didn't fix anything.
After 4 weeks and 22 hours, 14 support staff, 4 managers and a partridge in a pear tree, I stuck a network cable in it and its working, albeit not wirelessly. That HP 2510 doesn't know how close it came to being an anchor for my boat.

Easy installation and setup, works like a charm!
by magnumfj ,Jun 13 '04
Pros: WIRELESS! Cons: A little on the expensive side, but well worth it.
From box to printing on both laptop and PC (XP Home on both) in around an hour and a half! I was nervous after reading some of the bad reviews, but everything works at least a good as advertised. I had some initial confusion as to what kind of wireless setup I had (infrastructure vs. ad-hoc), but installed it as infrastructure and haven't looked back. Scans, faxes (multiple pages), prints, and copies as well as the three machines it replaces. All the negative comments notwithstanding, I think HP has a real winner here.

Great quality and functionality for an affordable price
by tgaff2x ,Feb 14 '04
Pros: wireless printing without a print server! Cons: must install bulky software on *all* machines.
It took less than 2 hours to go from cardboard box to being a functioning printer/fax/scanner/copier for both my desktop (win2k) and laptop (XP). Photo quality is very good and the fact that I do not need to keep my desktop on as a print server just to print from my wireless laptop is fantastic!

Wireless makes it all worth it
by piglet218 ,Jan 31 '04
Pros: Wireless access, photo quality Cons: slower when used wirelessly, but still faster than getting up and going to the printer
I bought this printer at 8:00 PM, and was printing, transferring photos to my computer from Memory Cards, and printing edited photos by 9:15 PM. Instructions were VERY easy, and the only reason it took as long as it did, was waiting for the installation program to complete (did not require me to be there, just put the laptop down and went and did other stuff came back it was done). Transferring photos took about 11 mins for 23 photos comparable to other wired printers, and I can run other programs while that runs in the back ground. Wireless connectivity works without problems (I was hesitant at first based on other reviews). Overall, being able to go wireless makes any "slowness" seem trivial, as I only use a laptop and I hated having to get up and take the laptop to the printer to plug in the USB cable every time I wanted to print. Also, the all-in-one plus photo quality is great.

HP's BIG mistake
by justranting ,Oct 13 '04
Pros: Could not install the software, so I can't say there were any Pros Cons: The most convoluted excuse for installation software on the planet!
The HP PSC 2510 comes with the worst excuse for software I've ever seen. Whoever released this product rushed it to market. It is obvious they were not striving for quality, but trying to beat a deadline. Two of us spent 6 hours trying to install this software and could not do it. The HP website has so many places to look for installation error fixes that you don't know what to try first. Nothing we tried got us past the 30% complete installation point before the software crashed and deinstalled. The software design team for this product should be embarrassed to have released it. Combine this with the fact that their consumer help desk response times are horrible, and they are really alienating their customers. HP will find most of these printers returned by highly frustrated consumers. I know it will be a long time before I buy another HP printer, and hardware purchasing is part of my job.
Also note that you can only fax one page at a time with this multifuntion printer. You need to redial with every page you place on the scanner. There is no autofeed feature.

How dare they call this an All-in-One!
by comparing ,Apr 07 '04
Pros: Good copier Cons: Can't fax multi-pages unless 1 at a time, and no legal size faxing.
If you are looking for fax capability - forget it. We had better technology in the 80's. There is no automatic feed, so you can not send multiple page faxes, unless you scan them individually - and get this - you can not fax 8-1/2 x 14 legal size paper. The printer is fine, and you can copy, or scan 8 x 11, but if you ever have the need for legal size documents you are out of luck!

PSC2510 Software Sucks
by freek_bos ,Jan 22 '06
Pros: prints ok Cons: software unstable
Hi everyone,
The software for this printer simply sucks. The programming team and person responsible should be fired.
The software for scanning is extremely unstable and doesn't work 99 out of a 100 times

THIS IS THE ONE>>>
by mulrooneys ,Jan 23 '04
Pros: ease of use, quality of photos, speed of printing Cons: Machine is bulky, no paper feeder for multiple copies, entire machine is a plastic
I bought this printer in a hurry. My son and daughter each had a science project, and my wife, a teacher needed a lot of Xeroxing done. I needed photos right away from our digital camera and I needed color Xeroxes for my son's project on Ancient Civilizations. This all in one makes it all easy. You can access all functions by computer or through the printer. Everyone in my family used it the same night. We didn't have time for a lot of manuals, and it didn't matter. I love this machine.

i'm returning mine tonight
by ellepatricia ,Jan 28 '04
Pros: theoretically has magical wireless capabilities Cons:
my dog could give better tech support and customer service
i bought it for the wireless printing capability and occasional convenience of having its other features.
installation was a nightmare. i followed the glossy diagrams to the letter and it wouldn't work. manuals were useless. tech "help" (when i got through to the guys in india after 3.5 hours on hold!) was even worse. they had me uninstall the 4 layers of programs but kept hanging up on me accidentally before getting to the reinstall part. even with a speakerphone to deal with the time on hold, 4 hours of installation melodrama is a waste of time.
after a "cooling off" period of 2 days i called tech help again to try to set it up. couldn't get through for the first hour. then, i reached someone in the us who took some info and transferred me to the "wireless team". 1.5 hours later (and still on hold) i had to leave the house, so that ended that one.
wireless or not, i'm taking it back.
if this is their version of tech "help" and customer service, i'm never buying hp again.
it's probably only a year until the competetors get their wireless printers on the market anyhow...
