HP 2175 Great printer...great price!

by scrid , Jan 05 '05
Pros: Great copy utility, easy operation, memory stick friendly
Cons: No printer cable included.
Fed up with lack of desk space due to a separate printer and scanner hogging up valuable real estate, I was on the market for a good multifunction printer. I do allot of digital photography and my old printer would not do 8 x 10 photo quality prints. I ...

a very nice all-in-one printer-scanner
by bobj99 ,Nov 02 '04
Pros: Auto-paper-sensitive, Very good colors,reasonably fast,good price.
Cons: NO USB CABLE! (SHAME!)
I searched a color printer with copying capabilities and linux drivers not too much expensive (max 200 euro) to replace my older epson stylus color which unexpectedly died.
Now i have it!
Perfectly working with linux (kernel 2.6.7- you must dl drivers from hp) it is well looking, too. Reasonably fast, quiet and very good colors are some pros. Most memory card reader is another plus. It works with my 10 meters long usb cable (which is off the usb specs and which made some other printers fail),too. Very satisfied so far.

HP printers don't last.
by gavinwink ,Dec 06 '04
Pros: Does everything.
Cons: Poor device quality. breaks easily, slow printer and ink cartridges are small and expensive.
I have never had a good experience with a HP printer. I liked this printer at first but after 9 months the device failed. HP had me ship the printer to them to fix it and it has been 4 weeks and i still have not received it back. HP has horrible service and the quality of everything they manufacture is terrible. I would never recommend getting a HP printer. Get a Lexmark or an Epson.

Pros: Print, scan, copy all in one. Pretty. Good print quality.
Cons: Sloooooow, tiny print cartridges, requires more patience and free time than most normal people have.
I ordered this printer for work and have to change the print cartridges about once a week! I wanted something that would print, copy, and scan. Our IT guy only supplies HP print cartridges and this printer had some positive reviews, so I decided to go with it. I share the printer with two other people and we are ALL annoyed with it. It takes forever to print, even in "fast draft" mode and it is a real pain in the neck to change the cartridges. You have to go through this "alignment" process, which takes forever. As I write this review, I am waiting for the bloody thing to print a 14-page black and white excel file on "fast draft" mode. I've been waiting about 20 minutes and it's still not done! Also, after countless hours spent by the IT guy and the two extremely computer-savvy people I share the printer with, we still cannot figure out how to share the scanner on the network. This may be some problem the printer has with XP.

If you have a lot of free time and a lot of patience, this printer is the one for you!

Don't waste your money
by kwszola ,Oct 19 '03
Pros: Good price, Brand Name.
Cons: Buggy software, very poorly knowledgable tech support.
This printer seems like a good idea until you get one in your home. It is impossible to print borderless 4x6 photos on this printer. I spent many hours with HP tech support, trying to get them to guide me in getting this printer to work properly. They are constantly puzzled as to why it doesn't print correctly. I also had 2 replacement printers sent to me, and none of them do what they are advertised to do.

The HP software that comes with this printer is buggy. I caused my computer to freeze up and lock up many times, even forcing me to reinstall Windows. Also, there are various ways of printing in the HP director software, each causing different print sizes. You choose borderless in one area and will get different results then in another area, while printing the same photo, none of which is actually borderless. You get a border on each of the 4 sides.

You cannot print 4x6 photos, unless the pager is much bigger then 4x6 on all sides.

Poor scanner software; reasonable printing
by dintyless ,Apr 23 '04
Pros: small footprint, low price
Cons: Poor scanner software, poor scanner quality, average printer quality, special ink cartridge for photo printing.
I owned this All-In-One for a month and was sorely disappointed by the scanner. The software that drives the scanner is only good for rank amateurs, but terrible if you actually know what you're doing. I compared scanning quality between that and an Epson RX500 and the Epson did a *much* better job capturing detail. The HP scan looked grungy and pixellated and there weren't enough options available in the software. So - if quality scanning is important to you, then skip this HP printer. (I used it with Mac OS X)
