Pros: Stunning photos, easy set-up/installation,4 full-sized ink cartridges included.
Price has been reduced-$229. Cons: None.
After researching Epinions and many other sites, I purchased a different photo printer that I had to take back because it was defective. I ended up purchasing the HP PS7960 at 8:45pm. Set-up was a breeze. In 10 minutes (including installing the software) ...

Pros: High quality color and B&W prints.Aledged archival results with HP Premium Plus papers. Cons: Super insane cost of printing with fresh cartridges($100USD).
This printer produces excellant results in color or B&W with the #59 Photo gray cartridge installed(8-color).To use it as a web or type printer,a black cartridge should be installed which case it is adequate but slow. The ink cartridges need to be ...

GREAT PRINTER
by atodd ,Feb 24 '04
Pros: Color screen, edit, email or save photos directly from the printer Cons: The covers seem a bit flimsy.
I bought this printer a week or two after it was released and I love it. Three different cartridge carriers really makes the photos look great. I love the fact that the computer doesn't need to be on to print photos. You can either hook your printer up via USB or stick in a card (CompactFlash Type I and II and Microdrive, SmartMedia, Secure Digital, MultiMedia Cards, Memory Sticks (Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick Pro, Magic Gate), xD-Picture Card). I also like the paper tray. Two different sections - one for photo paper and one for normal paper. You don't have to keep switching the size back and forth, back and forth. Other cool features are you can add frames to pictures directly on the printer, zoom in and move the frame around. It's great. The color screen is awesome. You can also print a proof sheet where it prints out all of the photos on the card or camera and you simply check off the photos you want printed - how many copies - and the orientation.

Double the price, half the performance...
by yang_liqiang ,Sep 13 '04
Pros: Good-looking. Looks solid. Cons: Below average photo quality. BIG and Heavy. Shakes like earthquake, EXPENSIVE!
Much cheaper EPSON works much better than this BIG, HEAVY, EXPENSIVE 'big name' printer. That is the impression I have got after using this high-end HP Photo Ink-Jet printer for 2 months. I did my homework before spending near $200 on this highly praised (by those who never used EPSON, I guess) top-of-the-line HP 7960. I also purchased the more expensive best 'photo' ink for this machine hoping it can produce the quality photo prints that would convince me the worth of the spending and research. BUT, NO, it failed my expectation. My old, cheap, small EPSON 880 (paid for $120 3 years ago) laughed at me...
I even used the 'best' quality printing setting which takes 10 minutes to spill out the photo. It still isn't as sharp as EPSON.The color is dull. Another thing I hate about this pretty face hp is that when it is printing the whole floor is shaking. It reminds me of earthquake...
Bottom line, more expensive does not mean better. Always check out EPSON before reaching your wallet for the expensive HP.

Printer new tried by HP engineering
by cagola ,Jan 31 '05
Pros: It provides clear and sharp results Cons: expensive and tiny ink cartridges, overly wide platform.
This is the worst designed and conceived printer I have ever had to deal with. What is with this exchanging cartridges for paper vs photo? Did they think that was a good idea. The cartridges are tiny in quantity. It's like HP marketing dictated that less ink for the same price as prior models would build profits. I have owned prior HP printers. Thanks too for using a huge percent of my precious and expensive ink for cartridge alignment setup when a cartridge is exchanged out. What's with all that clunking and crashing when it grabs paper? It doesn't sound like it will last very long under all that mechanical banging around. I could understand it if it was handling sheet metal.
But actually the quality of print is good and the speed is very satisfactory for my home use. If you don't have to actually deal with the physical printer, just print from the computer, it's a good printer. It's like whoever designed this mess did not get around to using it to see if it made sense. If they did, they are in denial.

WOW!!
by plaajaas ,Aug 21 '04
Pros: Beautiful color and black & white prints. Easy to set up and use. Cons: None yet, though I have heard that it goes thru ink fast.
After researching for a few weeks, I finally decided on the HP Photosmart 7960. I am so glad I did!
I love this printer. I cannot believe how beautiful the prints are. They are absolutely gorgeous. I can't tell the difference from my prints from the photo printing shop.
I have a 4.0 megapixel digital camera and on the best setting on both the camera and printer, made a perfect borderless 8.5" x 11". 4x6's come out just as beautiful. The colors are natural looking and I think it prints pretty fast for the quality. Pics look even better after a day or so.
I have read that it eats ink fast, so I will probably still print the majority at the photo printing shop. I will make my big prints at home though and when I really want a picture NOW.
I love how I can just insert my media card directly into the printer and bypass using my computer.
Even better, I got it at Costco for $149. That is the best price I could find.
