Pros: fairly fast Cons: autofeeder fails often, spotty software, missing features
HP scanjet 5530 review: First a word on my background: I am an electronics engineer who’s old enough to have a warm spot in my heart for Hewlett Packard’s name. In my mind this name has always stood for quality in design and usability. I am also a ...

Pros: Unique product. The feeder would work for me if the software wasn't so bad. Cons: Software is horrid, frequent jam errors (even when it isn't jammed), bad technical support.
I bought this scanner with the Automatic Photo Feeder so I could digitize my grandparents' photo albums and create a present for my mother. I'm now seeking a refund directly from hp. This is why: 1) The APF is not usable. 2) The scanning interface ...

Pros: They have an online chat feature with their "help" desk. Cons: Everything. Please see the review for details.
The first scanner I got didn't work (HP Director didn't work; none of the buttons on the front of the scanner worked; scanner didn't work at all). I have Win2000Pro/Office, which HP claims is supported by their product. The HP Phone Helpdesk person ...

Returned it after 2 Hours
by mike_metro ,Dec 21 '03
Pros: NONE Cons: Quality: Below Average
Feeder: Loud
Scanning Speed: Slow
Scanning Noise Level: Loud
I bought this scanner thinking that I could pop a bunch of photos in the feeder set it and it would scan in the stack without forcing me to sit there. Unfortunately this is not the case. Every picture that runs through the scanner you have to reset the bounds of the image and then click accept. You are only paying extra so the you don't have to pick up the cover and place the picture on the glass.
The feeder says you should not use it more than 5 times on a single picture, it makes me wonder if it is damaging the picture when it runs through. Also, once the feeder starts up, it is extremely loud. The scan speed is below average and very noisy. The quality of the picture was also sub-par.
After using it for about 2 hours I returned it and bought an Epson. You'd be better off getting a scanner from another brand like Canon or Epson. Even a cheaper one for half price or spend the same and get a much better scanner.
