Pros: none Cons: HP support is the worst, and it doesn't scan negatives, big and ugly
Well, I have been dying to get a scanner that scans negatives... so I got very excited when I bought this one! Came home, set up, seemed easy, placed negatives in scanner, read help, (which said to press scan and select negative...) there was no window ...

Great Resolution, Easy to Use
by fstallin ,Jan 19 '04
Pros: Image Quality, Ease of set-up, Durability Cons: Slightly higher cost, speed of scanning
I use one of the 3970s at work and have been very pleased with its performance. It was a breeze to set up, has a simple interface, and gives excellent results with all desk-top publishing and other software.
We use Adobe Acrobat 5.0 and they (the scanner & software) produce excellent quality documents for real estate use, as well as sending to clients around the globe.

NO MORE HP SCANNERS....TWO TIMES IS TOO MANY FOR ME...
by supernova7 ,Jun 17 '04
Pros: The price fairly reasonable Cons: Didn't work - brand new just once out of the box....
As I just plugged in my HP Scanjet into my Windows XP Home and it would not function after only two times usage....(Scanner not Found) with no explainations whatsoever, I had to rush out and get another scanner...
Unfortunately, I went to Circuit City and got another HP, this time the ScanJet 3970 Flatbed Scanner....
While my first HP had more than adequate documentation and reasonably easy to set up...this baby had virtually no document and unless you wanted to read through a terribly hard to read "helps" which was no help.....you pretty much had to hit and miss to set up....
I managed to scan the first picture quite well, unfortunately, the second wouldn't scan at all either from the Dock on my brand new Emac (I've had it also with MSoft), or the application folder, and to boot, it wouldn't even have a clean uninstall, something about a file being corrupted....
So, off I go again this time for an Epson or whatever, so that is that...and forgive my very short review .... this HP might have worked for others, but 2 times and I'm out with HP.
