  • On the Cutting Edge – With Silicone Potholder / Trivets!

    May 31 '04
Pros: silicone, flexible, heat-resistant to 675-degrees F., dishwasher safe, lots of color choices
Cons: Awkward as a potholder – Best trivet I’ve used!

Summary: My mother is the supreme collector of kitchen gadgets. She loves the new and unusual. So you can imagine what happened when she saw these silicone potholders in the Betty Crocker catalog last year. Not only did she order silicone potholders for herself ... read more

  • Trivet Yes, Potholder..NO WAY!

    Apr 09 '06
Pros: GREAT as a trivet/jar opener. Durable, easy to clean, does not transfer heat.
Cons: Horrible as a pot holder.

Summary: These little babies are in my collection (if one could call it that) of silicone bakeware and kitchen tools. I am a gadget freak and I am always looking for that "make life a little easier" product. (Anyone have a product testing job for me so I ... read more

    Feb 06 '04
Pros: Heat proof to up to 570 degrees fahrenheit, inexpensive, easy to store.
Cons: It's slightly more cumbersome as a potholder than standard (or silicon) oven mitts.

Summary: How many singed pot holders do you have in your kitchen? I have about four. My husband often uses cast iron skillets on the grill to grill vegetables over high heat. The result is that the cast iron gets insanely hot and burns through our standard ... read more

Pros: No worse than any other potholder.
Cons: No better than any other potholder, and a little more awkward to use.

Summary: I'm surprised by the number of highly positive reviews. We just got some, and they're no better than the old reinforced-cloth ones we wanted to replace. Sure, you can pick up hot stuff, but the heat comes through very quickly and you must set
