MegaSTOR 6 in 1 Internal -
by one_eye ,Jun 30 '05
Pros: Burns about any media you could want quickly. Runs quietly and produces quality burns. Cons: None that I could find.
I bought this unit at the local Micro Center for $74.99 with a mail in rebate of $20.00 reducing my final price to $54.99. Its in a computer using an Intel P4 3GHz with 1GB RAM using Windows XP. It is being used in conjunction with a Samsung combo DVD ROM/CDRW. So far I have only used DVD-R media in it and it has done a fine job. I have copied home DVDs that were 2 hour and some that used a variable bitrate and all have copied without problems. The unit comes with Nero OEM Suite and although not tested claims to burn DVD /-R and RWs including double layer media and CDR/RW. I only tested using 8X media. Looking up the FCC ID on the unit shows that it is the same as the NEC A3DND-3520A except for firmware, model number and FCC ID. I would recommend this unit to anyone. Unit has a 2 year warranty.

Several media's used and no good.
by s3v3ndeuce ,Jan 17 '06
Pros: Price (at the time and with rebates) Cons: Glitches on burns, slower than said.
I bought this 'Mad Dog Multimedia (MD16XDVD9) DVD±RW Dual Layer Burner' for one reason and one reason only at the time, the price. After getting it home and mailing out the rebate I soon realized that I got what i paid for. I used some higher-end media to burn on (HP DVD's) and about 1 out of 5 glitched up on playback or would stop working half-way through the movie. I then bought 3 other brands of DVD's and the same outcome. I then moved onto a Samsung brand burner with no mail-in rebate and haven't looked back. Would anyone like to buy my Mad Dog burner? $5?

Stay away from this product

Pros: Will allow me to create data DVDs and dual layer DVDs. Cons: Everything I described above. Stay away.
I bought this unit for the price also. Bad decision.
Not only does the Roxio software constantly crash my computer, the dvd burner itself has already ruined 3 rewritable DVD discs beyond repair, and these are expensive discs. The lightscribe feature does not work at all, it only starts to label the disc and then stops halfway through, so now I've got discs with half-written labels on them that I can't use. I am not even running an old computer, I've got a Dell desktop with all of the latest stuff, and it still doesn't work fully. The only thing I've been able to do is create data DVDs.
There are better products out there. I will never buy anything that comes with the Roxio software again. Do yourself a favor and don't cut corners when it comes to buying computer hardware and software, because you always get what you pay for.
