Pros: Great recieve sensitivity, ability to use standard batteries. Cons: Expensive in comparison to radios with same features.
Motorola is known for commercial quality radios. These are not as durable but better than similar radios in the same class. After setup, they are easy to use. I'm a Ham (Amateur Radio Operator). Use of an FRS/GMRS radio is not a preferred activity, ...

Pros: Good reception for its maximum range. Design is not bad. Cons: Size is a little bit big, PTT button is hard to push.
I just recently received my T5500 Aug 22, 05 from my airmiles points reward. I gonna be using it my travel from toronto - florida. We tested it this morning Aug 23, in our sorrounding areas, most likely 1-2 kms, it work fine and the reception is crystal clear. Now, going to test it from my home to work which is around 5 miles. I hope it will work. It will really save my some airtime with my cellfone.

Not loud enough!
by daxmaster9k ,Oct 14 '06
Pros: Blue Cons: Can't hear anyone well enough (and isn't that the whole point?)
I have experience with several other Talkabout models, and this 5500 model isn't loud enough. I have the volume cranked all the way up and it is not nearly as easy to hear someone speaking to me as the other models I have worked with (T4900 and T5620). The chirps and rings are loud, but the microphone doesn't seem to pick up voices very well. If the two of us press our lips on the microphone and speak loudly they transmit just fine (like the other models I have cited,) but who wants to kiss a walkie talkie all day???

Motorola T5500R
by just-doug ,Oct 06 '05
Pros: 38 sub channels, clear & crisp on short range. Easy to use. Key Lock feature. Cons: Will only take a flat clip for neck strap attachment.
I have 4 - T5500R radios I use for work daily.
We get an average range of 1 to 2 klms with city use.
By using one of the GMRS channels with a sub channel, we experience very little interference from other users.
The rechargable batteries usually will last for about 10 hours of use and if needed we can switch to AA batteries.
