Absolute Junk
by photoguy1 ,Oct 26 '04
Pros: Can't think of any. Cons: Poor documentation, no error messages to indicate what might be wrong, just wouldn't work.
This was my first attempt at setting up a wireless network. I found the 311 easy to install but impossible to configure. This is where the documentation gets extremely poor. Windows said it could not configure this, to use the manufacturer's software. But windows wouldn't recognize it when I used Netgear software. When you let windows configure, a pop-up says you can't fully utilize it's features, etc.,etc.,etc. Nothing ever comes up to tell you what the problem might be.
By the way, when I first opened the box, an enclosed card states that the drivers haven't been signed by Microsoft, but "go ahead and ignore the warning box that pops up and install it anyway". Bottom line is this thing simply wouldn't work and connect to the WGT624 only 20 feet away. Do not buy this product, I am returning mine!

New version (6.0) much better
by kskaggs ,Aug 12 '04
Pros: Readily available, good signal Cons: I don't have any with version 6.
I had a lightening strike on my router and had to replace it. Bought the same router as before because it was on sale.
I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to set up. Five minutes and I was up and running.
I was even more surprised when I went to check the signal strength. I am getting the full 54 MBPS rate with the new version in the same spot that I only got 1 to 2 MBPS with the old version router.
For comparison, here's the old review with version 2.0:
I found this card, used with a Netgear router WGR614, to be very weak. The environment it was used in consisted of a two story wood frame house. Within this house the router and card couldn't maintain a signal 40 feet from each other. Tech support told me that I needed to move the computer closer to the router. If I was buying another set of wireless routers and access points I would buy a brand which had signal boosters available.
