Pros: Low price, features, image quality, sharp optics, compact, sturdy, large LCD, histogram, easy to use Cons: Some plastic elements (battery door, tripod mount), expensive xD cards, no manual control, slow USB
After having good experience with the 5
-Megapixel
Olympus Camedia D-595, I decided to try the 5
-Megapixel

Pros: Massive screen, excellent build quality, stylish design, ease-of-use, photo quality, improved controls. Cons: Abysmal customer service, still not perfect for snapshots.
I have owned four Olympus compact cameras: one film and this is my third digital. I have always been impressed by the photo quality produced, and this camera is no exception. Apparently, it has a revised lens design. It does not seem a great deal ...

Pros: Rugged, well made, compact camera that takes very good pictures. Large, sharp LCD display. Cons: No conventional viewfinder for basic framing. Mode wheel is bothersome.
My wife and I needed a compact camera to take snaps in the field of potential furnishings and architectural elements for our interior design business. Basic requirements included compact size, durability, and ease of use (for my wife, who rolls her eyes ...

You will not regret it!
by web8e ,Jan 18 '05
Pros: quality size/feel, all weather design, super crisp 2.5" screen, intuitive user interface. Cons: Pricey (but well worth it), uses xd memory card (not interchangeable with my PDA)
warning: pictures may make subjects look better on film than in reality. This camera is unbelievable! I've only had it for one day and I am already use to its intuitive user interface. There is no viewfinder but, trust me, its not a problem; in it's place it has one of the largest/sharpest LCD screens that I've seen on a camera of it's size.
I can't really fully comment on battery life yet. I've charged the battery one time and haven't had a chance to run it all the way down yet, but I've been taking pictures non-stop since I got it and there no sign that it's consuming power at an alarming rate.

A Must Have!!
by dragonfly402 ,May 07 '05
Pros: Easy to use, small and compact, HUGE SCREEN,clear pictures, great features, to many to list!! Cons: A little pricey, computer software isn't the best! Nothing Else!
This was the first digital camera I have ever purchased and it was well worth it. It's so easy to use and takes incredible pictures! I was surprised at how easy it was to use. If it were lost or stolen I wouldn't search for another I would buy the Olympus Stylus 500 again!
If your not into making short videos the 32MB is plenty, but if you do enjoy making a few i would consider buying more MB for the camera.

seriously flawed design
by grizzlyadams97 ,May 23 '07
Pros: easy to use, good features, great screen and produced good quality pictures. Cons: seriously flawed design of the front panel & lens cap causing the lens cap stick
my father & i both bought these cameras about 2 years ago. within a week, the lens cover on one camera was stuck. the camera had been kept in a bag or pocket and had not be dropped, hit or had anything heavy placed on it. the manufacturer declined to replace the camera, claiming that we it had been broken due to improper use.
about a week ago the exact same problem happened to the second camera. again, it had been inside a case, in a bag, had not been dropped or had any heavy items placed on it. as the warranty has expired i guess i will be throwing the camera away. the shame is that in all other respects it is a great camera.

Pros: Large 2.5 inch LCD screen, lots of features. underwater settings and all weather design too! Cons: no viewfinder (screen only) but You'll get use to it not being there. don't worry!
I was very lucky to be able to get my hands on this camera before it hits the market/stores in January 05.
I am extremely impressed with it!
Olympus has taken their stylus line to an all new level!
this camera has quick response with easily laid out options and functions.
The zoom is great too!
with 5 Megapixels your pictures look crisp and sharp! No complaints here!
If you are Looking for a new digital camera, wait for this one to hit the stores!

Best Camera Ever!
by andiimom ,Apr 21 '05
Pros: LCD Screen, rechargeable battery, intuitive features Cons: Can't think of ANY!
I purchased this camera after my Kodak (3yrs old) died. We did a fair amount of shopping around and loved the size of this camera and the great viewfinder. I love it so much, that one month later, I purchased it as a gift for my mother. It is so intuitive to use that my mom was able to start using it right away.
I love that you can do video on it too. Great picture quality, great battery. I have taken over 1000 pictures and have only re-charged the battery about 3 times since January.

The BIG SCREEN Camera is Here!
by expojohnr ,Jul 25 '05
Pros: The right price on a well build, large screen, compact camera. Cons: Stylus sharpness, clarity not as good as some of the larger olympus cameras.
This is a very nice camera with an awesome screen so you can see your photos and share them with friends. When it comes to picture quality, it is good. But the sharpness and clarity is at the Stylus level. The photos are not going to come out as sharp as they do on the olympus 770 and some of their other larger cameras in this price range. So for me there is some sacrifice in photo quality when you go to a compact camera. Otherwise the camera is well built with lots of gaskets to keep dust and moisture out of your camera. It has a lot of nice setting and all the adjustments you need for a camera in this class.

Everything you could want from a Point & Shoot camera!
by n8zilla ,Mar 19 '05
Pros: Size, Hyper Crystal LCD and the overall product quality. Cons: None as of yet.
I recently purchased the Olympus Stylus 500 and I could not be any happier. First off, the 2.5 Hyper Crystal LCD is not only beautiful, but it sets the new standard for digital cameras. Also, the LCD screen automatically adjust to the amount of light in your environment. You can see all your images perfectly, which comes in handy if you like to store and share picture albums on your XD card. Overall functions are simple and easy to use. Picture quality is awesome!

This camera rocks
by ginalisa04 ,Apr 18 '05
Pros: Everything except see next question Cons: The advance manual is only on C/D
I am always buying a new camera. Guess that is what (photography lovers) semi-professionals do ;-) I have never been happier. This is the best camera I have ever owned. Pick one up today you will not be sorry. The pictures are just as beautiful printed out as the appear on the screen including (8X10's and 10x13's). I knew I was in love from the moment I laid my hands on this camera. Gotta run many picture to take. E-mail me if you have any questions.
