Butterfly photo lies to its customers, which is completely unacceptable. I placed an online order for a digitial camcorder on Monday and, since the website showed the camera as "in stock," I expected no problems. I checked the tracking the following Monday and it still showed as "processing." I called a couple of days after that (now 9-10 days after the placement of the order) and talked to a customer service representative who told me "everything is fine, you're good to go." I asked when I should look for the delivery and she told me by Friday or Saturday of that week (or approx. 12 days after the order). That weekend came and went and still nothing. I called back again the next Tuesday (my order still displayed as "processing") and they told me that there were back-ordering the merchandise (despite the fact that their website STILL showed it as in-stock). But they assured me that it would arrive by the weekend or early next week. That weekend came and went as well and I called back on Tuesday (now over three weeks from my initial purchase). When I asked about my order the person on the line actually had the gall to say, "oh yeah, you're fine. Your order's good to go." After I lost my temper and irritably said that I'd been hearing the same thing for three weeks, she finally went and talked to someone, and then came back to inform me that they'd be willing to refund my purchase.
The refund came through smoothly, but it is inexcusable that the default answer to any complaint by their customer service is "oh everythings fine, look for it in a few days" even if this is obviously not the truth. I can excuse a lot of things as just the problems of organizing a business, but this practice demonstrates an intentional desire to mislead their customers

Very quick service. Received it in less than a week. However, no tracking offered. Annoying sales call to upgrade order, unprofessional, and untrue statements regarding battery-time that came with camera, also glad I didn't buy memory stick from them because it was available for less at Costco. BUT IT WAS BEST PRICE AND VERY QUICK. ONLY NEGATIVE WAS SALES CALL.

I have purchased two cameras from Butterfly Photo.com and am satistied with the price and the service.
The only negative I had with both purchases is the phone calls I received after each purchase from a sales rep attempting to add to the sale. If I was in the market to purchase add on products I would have done so at the time.
The latest rep also tried to sell me the next step up in shipping until I pointed out that the shipping method I chose would get me the product exactly when I wanted.

Order taken just fine. But numerous phone calls necessary because my shipping address is different than my billing address. They indicated that their policy was that they "would not ship to an address that was different from the billing address". Additionally, I live in a very rural area. However, FedEx and UPS deliver to me constantly (I run a business from my home). Butterfly simply would not believe that I understood and knew my address until we asked for a supervisor. At least a half a dozen phone calls were necessary to complete this. The price was great, but the hassle may not have been worth it!

There was a big delay in my order and I had no idea why. I called them after 4 business days from the moment I placed my order (they say they process the orders within 24-48 hours), to ask them what is happening to my order. There was this guy on the phone who told me that he'll look into it and he placed me on hold. So far so good. Then after 2 minutes or so, this other guy picks up, and with a very nice, smooth, commercial voice, he asks me whether I ordered the DCR-DVD201. I tell him that I did, and he starts telling me that he used to own this camera (I doubt that he did) and that is such a great camera, and has all kinds of nice features, etc. I say "OK". (In my mind: What are you trying to say? I already ordered the camera I want it to be delivered, I don't need any more convincing to buy it, I already did my homework and I know what I am buying, and generally I wouldn't listen to a customer representative telling me about the features of the camera; instead I would look into them myself). Anyway, I tell him again my problem, i.e. that they haven't shipped the camera to me yet, and he tells me that they were not sure whether my address was a real address. He reads my address to me and I say yes, that is my real address and you should not have any problems shipping the camera to me. He says ok, and then he starts asking me whether I want the Starter's DVD Camera Kit, and he tells me all about it and how great it is for this camera. I tell him that I don't want that. Then he asks me whether I want an extra battery, that the camera runs out of batteries fast (I though it was a great camera in his opinion). I tell him that I don't want that either. Then he asks me whether I want a UV protective lens, and he starts explaining to me what that does, I interupt him and tell him that I know what it does. I also tell him that my only problem was that the camera was not shipping, that I ordered the camera from them because they had the best price, and that I don't want any of the accessories (He really started to bug me at this point in time with all his "offers" of great proces on accessories, but fact is that all of them were over priced. What's even more, I tried to suggest to him, by saying that they had the best price and that I ordered only the camera from them, that I already purchased these accessories from other stores that had best prices on them, so I wasn't going to purchase them again from them, for a premium price. I don't think he got that.) Anyway, after this dicsussion he tells me that the camera will be on its way within 24 hours. I say "great!" and I hang up.
I check online the next day to see if they had shipped the camera, and the did (if they hadn't I would have cancelled the order and bought it from somewhere else). I even realize that they upgraded the shipping option from FedEx Saver to FedEx Two Day shipping. So that kinda made me happy.
Bottom line is, that I really did not like the whole experience with their customer service. I tried to give detailed description of what happened on the phone. I have to call them to tell them that my shipping address is correct (which actually I don't even think that that was the problem. I actually think that they wanted to get me for some of their "offers" for accessories), instead of them calling me if they really had a doubt about that. And when I call them, they start pushing me into getting these overpriced accessories (overpriced compared to other stores that sell them for less and you don't even have to buy a camera: I mean if I am going to spend a fortune on this camera at least give me better prices on the accessories that I buy along with it. You are already making a lot of marginal profit on the camera why do you want to make an even bigger one the accessories, if it means losing customers?)
