Ordered Sony DCR-TRV33 camcorder from Butterfly - not the best price, but the best price for its high rating. Ordered "basic" pkg, but received call later in day for upsell on accessories - I bit on a filter, tapes, and battery. I later found out that even with their "sale" price, I could have got these accessories much cheaper at a Circuit City or Best Buy (lesson learned: price shop on accessories, too!). They didn't tell me that the battery was back-ordered - 2 weeks later I still don't have it. I called today to cancel the backorder and was put on hold for over 10 mins - then was hung up on! Called back and routed through purchase (they always answer!), who transferred me to a customer service voice mailbox that was full and not accepting messages! Finally, got through to someone to cancel the order.

I was pleasantly surprised by my Butterfly Photo experience. After reading reviews on cnet.com and epinions.com, I felt confident that this was not a fly by night operation. I placed my order for an Olympus C-765 camera and received email confirmation the next day, asking me to call one of their representatives to confirm my order through telephone. When I called, they never tried to sell me any other products or accessories and told me that they upgraded my shipping to FedEx 2day... free of charge. I had originally requested the Free UPS Ground service which would've taken 8-10 business days. The camera arrived three days later.
ButterflyPhoto.com had THE cheapest price for my camera.

Great price. Fast shipping (faster than they said it would be). I did have to put up with the email after the order asking me to call for "security reasons related to my credit card" when the real reason was the typical "hey, you forgot to order these overpriced accessories" pitch.
But it wasn't bad, and the rest of the deal was pretty hard to beat.

Tried 4 different times to order a Sony DVD200 camcorder on the phone. They offered it at a great price and got fairly decent reviews out of all the infamous NY area "discount" centers. When I mentioned that I'd prefer next day shipping, these rip-off artists HUNG UP ON ME EACH TIME. They knew that they wouldn't have time to try to sell me their overpriced accessories to make up for the difference in the price of the camcorder. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money by buying your product at Best Buy or Circuit City or any other store that you KNOW won't sell you down the river...
i bought a digital camera from this place because of the great prices. i read reviews about a "required call" from them or from you so i was kinda skeptical but gave it a shot. it was late at night so i just ordered online. i got email the next day saying i gotta call them regarding my order. the call was quick and i thought it was really useful!!!. you get to talk to a rep who knows your order personally so you get to ask about shipping, tracking #, their business, anything you want. he did try to offer me some accessories for the camera but i didnt think much about that, its just business talk. jus say no he'll move on. i got the order in 2 days from COAST TO COAST! EXCELLENT.

Great place for me! Bought a Minolta S414 due to the low price. Ordered on line and they (of course) sent me an email to call (toll free) to confirm order. Their rep was amiable and I moved on. Got the camera quickly and have been pleased as punch ever since.

Butterfly Photo really came through for me. Another online store promised me delivery of a digital camcorder for my son's birthday and never even shipped. I called Butterfly Photo in a panic. They shipped the camcorder the same day and it was delivered the next day -- my son's actual birthday! Life safer! I was very pleased with my transaction.

In less than 24 hours after ordering, I have a tracking number with a 2 day delivery date. Much faster than expected. Their website is superb in product description, ease of ordering, and disclosure of terms and policies. The call from their customer rep. was informative, courteous, and completely hassle free. There was no pressure to buy additional items at all, only a brief question asking if there was anything additional I needed with the camera. So far, this has been a very pleasurable experience, and I would recommend them to anyone.
Only purchase known good name brand products from Butterfly Photo that you intended to buy...like a Sony camcorder. DO NOT BUY ANY OF THE OTHER NO-NAME JUNK THEY TRY TO SELL...LIKE THEIR CAMCORDER ACCESSORIES, WHICH ARE FROM MERKURY (WHO??). The additional camcorder battery they sold me was from Merkury and would not hold a charge at all. It was past ButterFly Photo's 14 day return policy when I figured this out, so I now I am stuck trying to deal with Merkury (who??).

Great customer service...I entered my information incorrect and they called me about 1 hour after I placed my order. There was no pressure to buy anything else (I purchased a Canon PS S3 IS). They processed and shipped out my order same day and I received in 2 days, all the way from NY, I live on the Canadian border in WA. AND this was all 4 days before X-mas.

When I shop, I go online and I search. When I make up my mind, I look for the lowest price store, but one with quality ratings. Ive been screwed in the past by the low price leader so I tend not to go with them unless they have high consumer ratings. Butterfly had those ratings. But instead of ordering online, I decided to call them to see if they could beat any online store. I gave them the price of the camera I was looking at and they were able to match that stores prices (That other store had the lowest price, but bad consumer reviews). They also gave me a lower price on the cameras battery which I was not expecting.
Shipment arrived on time and in great condition. I have no complaints with this store and would shop them again.

The order was wrong and the customer support was terrible at resolving the problem. Wrong merchanise was sent, full price was charged instead of discount that was offered, shipping charge was also wrong. It took four weeks, six phone calls, and several emails to get them to fix the order. On several occasions customer support said they would get back to me in a couple of days. In one case they even said they would call back in a half hour. They never called back and never got back at all on emails except to say, "sorry we'll get back to you later". It was a real pain dealing with them. I hate to get nasty but in this case I had to make a real fuss for them to finally correct the order. I will never do any business with this company again. They are very happy to sell merchandise to you but if they make a mistake on the order they just don't want to deal with it. This is the wrong kind of company for me!

Extremely Un-satisfied! I ordered my camera on 12/14. I received an email letting me know there was a problem with the shipping address, which I quickly resolved. The camera was to ship in 2-3 business days. O0 12/20 I had to call them to find out what the delay was (X-mas gift??) and was told that they were out of stock, but a truck was coming in today. I gave it another day, and still no confirmation that it had been shipped. X-mas did not happen. I then received an email after the new year that it was indefinitely out of stock, (what happened to that truck?) and my credit card would be refunded. On January 12th, I had to call them to ask about my refund, and they told me it had been issued, I told them the charge was still there, they looked again, and said I was right, they would issue me a credit, in 2-3 business days. A month later and I might just get a refund on my credit card for a camera that was never delivered for Christmas!
I would not recommend this sight, and I will never shop here again!

Besides having the best price for my camera online (believe me, I searched everywhere), I even received a confirmation call from Justin at Butterflyphoto to verify that all the information on my credit card was correct. I highly recommend their service over most of the higher priced competitors without equal service.
They placed a follow-up call to try to get me to buy additional batteries or memory cards, but when I indicated that I did not need anything, the issue was quickly dropped and the order shipped.
In total, it was a good experience even if I did get the sleezy feeling coming over the phone as they were trying to sell me things I did not need. Read more

The battery charger for the camcorder does not make decent contact with the additional battery that i purchased with the camera; therefore, the second battery does not charge. Also, i returned the first addtional battery that i purchased and the company said they would reimburse me for shipping - they did not do this. I won't shop with this company again. i will pay the extra few bucks for a more legitimate company. Read more

It was a good experience, no hassles. After placing the order one salesperson gave a call and mentioned the discounts on extended warranty etc., (That was good to know).
He also mentioned that there are some first-time buyers coupons and enquired what I am going to with that.
But when I purcased there was no mention about those coupons.
It would have been easier if all the coupons were visible at the time of placing the order. Read more

I called to make sure that my order was in and found that it was not. Upon investigation, my order had to be "confirmed" by phone. The guy wanted me to buy some extras. I declined. He was still pleasant enough and completed my order. I picked the free shipping, and they still sent the order out with 2-day delivery. I had to recall later to get my tracking number.
