Absolutely horrible experience with Ectaco. They want your money and will say anything to get it. All are lies. Free gifts not included. They claim to be mission-minded to help world communicate. What a joke! They won't communicate with their own customers. Ordered 2 electronic dictionaries. Sound quality so BAD could not hear what was being said and speech was so fast that if the sound quality had been good, it was too fast hear to sound out for myself. Said could return items 7 days after Christmas. Customer service was closed for 4 of the 7 days. I called on days closed. I sent emails on Day 8, no replies. Called on Day 9. Would not give RMA - Would not allow me to talk to anyone above the clerk who answered or the alleged manager, James. BEWARE NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM OR ANYONE ELSE WHO WILL NOT ALLOW THE RETURN OF ECTACO PRODUCTS - If these two products which were all show and no substance are any example then you don't want anything they have their name on or are associated with.
If the delivery were any faster, I would have had my new iTRAVL before hanging up the phone. I got my delivery within 48 hours of confirming my order. Fantastic!

Ectaco is the absolute worst, I ordered a BES-1840 and was sent a different model, when I called to tell them they sent the wrong one i was told send it back when i asked for a RMA code (which is required) i was told i had to call back after 4 phone call I was told they no longer had the BES-1840 then was told I could return the WRONG one and would have to pay my own shipping and be subject to a restocking fee . HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

One thing I can say about Ectaco is that they have the best prices
around.
You don't pay any premiums when you buy from them (like you do if you
buy from other distributors) and they even offer special deals I didn't see anywhere else. What's more, the delivery was really quick - a couple of days compared to weeks from other sites. The ordering process was really good too - it made me feel like they really cared about my order.

Either product doesn't work, or it uses up batteries in about 2 minutes. Merchant ships via FedEx and will not allow packages to be left at houses, even with a signature. My FedEx is only open during my work hours, so getting the item ordered was a nightmare. Read more

I was somewhat disappointed in the ER200DM electronic dictionary because of the lack of Russian verb conjugations. (I had been spoiled by my Eng/Span Bookman) As an English speaker, I had no use for the conjugated English verbs, i.e. swim, swam, swum. If I purposely misspelled a word to view the alternate spelling suggestions, I found that the list was limited. Idioms are in English only, which didn't help me learn any Russian ones. I considered buying the ER486T Talking Russian English dictionary in order to have the features that I wanted, but found that the operating manual was not listed on Ectacto's support page. I wanted more information before buying a more expensive dictionary. The Ectacto web site does not describe the games. Great that it would have 4 games, but I am only interested in Russian/English language games. Apparently the ER486T has none of these. When I learned that the more expensive electronic dictionary didn't have the features I wanted (Russian verbs conjugated), I accepted the limitations of the less expensive product that I purchased and I am satisfied that the cost ($120-30 discount) was reasonable. I will just have to carry a copy of 201 Russian Verbs and a small grammar book in order to have the learning supplies that I need. Read more

I ordered the wrong product twice on the net.(my Fault)
I did not read carefully, therefore I did not know which product had the Russian voice I needed. I returned them promptly(overnight)but my returns were processed very slow(9 days later.)
my experence with one of thier representatives was not acceptable. No customer wants to hear or get the feeling that he was stupid, or be questioned for ordering the wrong item. I did make honest mistakes.
A company with a solid international reputation as this one should have better customer realtions and better returns processing speed.
In all fairness I must add that my experience with another of thier operators was pleasant, caring, and professinal. Unfortunately the damage was already done. Read more

The device came in a slightly dented box. The device is defective, as evidenced by the fact that the screen's display was full of dark lines when turned on, if it turned on at all, and the cradle that connected the device to my PC apparently does not work, since during the second attempt to install the thing, my PC said the device was "not working properly." I have emailed the company in an attempt for customer service, but so far have not heard back. It is my intention to call on Monday 8/30/04 and complain about this product and demand my money back. I have no intention on accepting an exchange. I will simply find a similar product made by any other manufacturer. All in all, two thumbs way, way down. Read more
