Dreadful; Avoid at all costs by msm114 ,Jan 22 '04
This was the worst shopping experience I have had from an on-line store--and I buy online often. The phone was promised (with an extra fee) in two business days. When it didn't arrive, I called and emailed. Each time I was told the phone would arrive soon. Next they told me Verizon was the problem. I called Verizon myself to see if there was a problem. Eleven days later, Inphonics sent me an email saying I wasn't "eligible" for the phone. The email said that unless I responded in 5 days they would ship me another phone and contract me to a different wireless service. When I tried to email and call, my emails were returned and the phone number was invalid. I'm still resolving the issue. I have another cell phone with Sprint and have never missed my payment etc so I know my history is fine. AVOID THESE PEOPLE AT ALL COSTS NO MATTER HOW ATTRACTIVE THE PRICE SEEMS.
I would advise anyone considering purchasing a phone from InPhonic/Wirefly.com to STEER CLEAR! Customer service is terrible (it is impossible to speak to a person and you get nowhere with them through e-mails). I was basically SCAMMED out of a $300 rebate, as were thousands of others (according to online reviews and Better Business Bureau complaints). Hopefully someone will file a class action lawsuit against this company soon. The "business" they are operating in CRIMINAL.
Do Not EVER buy a phone from from Inphonic/Wirefly. They royally cheated me out of my rebate. Somewhere along the line, they informed me that i had downgraded my Cingular plan to a cheaper one and hence my rebate cannot be filled. I confirmed with Cingular that no such thing had happened. Howver, there is no way to convince "Mr. Rebate guy" that my plan has not changed since i bought the useless phone that they sold me. I don't think there is any confusion or is-communication. They are simply bloody liars and cheats!
Disappointing when it comes to their rebates by chef3209 ,Dec 23 '06
I did receive the cellular service and phone as promised, but my problem is with the rebate. I could have chosen many merchant options, but chose Cellular Choices based on the $150 mail-in rebate. They conveniently leave off some "details," such as having to wait 6 months before submitting the rebate form, and then waiting (in my case) for an indefinite period before ever receiving an actual check. Specifically, I purchased the phone/service on February 19, 2006, submitted the rebate form on August 26, 2006, and, as of this writing, am still waiting the money. When I look-up the rebate status on their website, it states that it has been approved and my check "is in process." When I phone, I am essentially told that I should be receiving the check shortly. Righhhhttttt!!!! After almost a year, is a $150 rebate really worth it to deal with these kind of merchants?
UPDATE 1/8/2007 - I finally received my $150 check in the mail!!!!
Why is InPhonic still in business? by mrdreamboy ,Feb 25 '05
1. They bait you with too good to be true deals on the phones.
2. Once they get you hooked, get ready for series of reasons and explanations why you're order hasn't processed because you need to provide them with something.
3. They have problem porting numbers over. Surely they lie about this to everyone ... in one of their adds InPhonic says, "in the rare event that they cannot port your number ..." there is nothing rare about them not being able to port a number, just read the stories posted by so many people
4. Customer Service Reps do not know what they are talking about ... can't explain why things are happening ... are they just good at making up stories on the spot while they're on the phone with a customer --- or pretend to call the Supervisor who, naturally, is busy helping another client ... all the time.
5. WORST on-line shopping experience. I don't wish it on anyone, not even my enemies.
I am sorry to write this review.... I have ordered a phone by the end of November, and now it is January 11th... I still don't have it resolved... I have been on the phone with this company for several days, have shed tears of frustration, have yelled at service reps, have gotten in contact with the worst part of myself... NOT WORTH THE TROUBLE... stay away... save yourself some peace - don't do it... I hope someone takes these people out of business...
Something For Nothing?? Yes, It IS too good 2 be true by phil1919 ,Nov 16 '04
Please do not buy anything from Inphonic. Their customer service is awful and unknowledgable about the services/products/return/refund policies. I had to go to their corporate hq to get my order str8'n out. Something for nothing??? Your first rebate can only be used 90 days after the order. The second rebate($100) is for 6 months after your service is active. So that meant I was charged $132.48 off the bat. Cheap handsfree, and beltclip came free. Bought one the next day.
I've had the service for 14 days and now I'm getting the run around about trying to change it over to another carrier thru them. Cingular to Verizon. I was just told, they'd send me another phone, and I could try another phone before I cancel. Did I ask for another phone?
Also 'I' had to call cingular to verify my credit, then CB wirefly w. the info. My order was placed 10/20, I received the phone 11/1.
Did I forget to mention they charged me twice and told me that they couldn't refund me. Thats when I went to HQ! Glad we're in the same city.
DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM INPHONIC/WIREFLY-THE WORST! by consumer_fe ,Mar 08 '05
Inphonic/Wirefly is the absolute worse customer service experience I have ever had. First off I only received half of the rebates they claimed they would send and the free accessories did not come along with the phone. I had to e-mail them and they still didn't send everything over.
Also, the customer service representative said that they would simply transfer my existing number to the new phone. No charges for this. I receive a bill for a new phone number. I get that taken care of by AT&T. Now I'm being charged by inphonic/wirefly for disconnecting the phone number.
They have the worst customer service I have experienced with a company. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM.
This is the worst online ordering experience I've ever had. First, their order form didn't have a number porting option, so I called their 800 number through GoodGuys.com -- the system hung up on me three times. So I found another 800 number through Yahoo, and got through, and had to repeat several times that I wanted my old number ported. Then I had to go through another long process with Verizon, and told them that I wanted my old number ported. A week later, I've heard nothing (despite paying for 2-day delivery). Finally, I get an e-mail saying that my phone is on the way, only with a new phone number. WHAT INCOMPETENCE!!! By the way, I also e-mailed them about their faulty 800 number, and a week later they e-mailed me back saying they would have responded sooner, but they lost my e-mail message.
Buyer Beware, You get what you pay for. Expect terrible customer service. by isipwater ,Sep 10 '04
Buyer Beware. First, my order was going fine. Then I experienced a shipping problem. From there my experience was very frustrating, time consuming, and unprofessional. I experienced terrible customer service, constantly getting transfered from one rep to another. I was hung up on several times and had to repeatedly go through the company's voice prompts. I have been trying to resolve my problem for over four weeks. I have spent at least fives hours of my personal time trying to get a resolution and it is still not fixed. My lesson is that you get what you pay for. Buyer Beware.
DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY. by jmallory ,Feb 16 '05
I ordered phones thru InPhonic. They arrived as scheduled, but the cellular provider can't provide coverage in my location, so I attempted to obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization( RMA)so I could return the phones. Called the cust service number repeatedly only to be told they had phone problems and I couldn't be connected with the "Retentions" department. Have been fighting this battle for two days now, and they say they still have technical phone difficulties and it might take several more days to fix it. I DO NOT recommend you deal with this company. I will cancel the credit card charges and ship the phones without an RMA if I can't reach someone in the next 24 hours.
Think you're getting a great deal? Not worth the hassle! by lalalinda ,Dec 06 '04
I ordered a phone through Inphonic/Circuit City , with service through Verizon. I too was attracted by the price and bundled accessories they offered. 3 days after I placed the order, I received an email saying I needed to provide additional information for the credit check. I contact the number at Verizon that they provided, and faxed them this sensitive security info. Later that evening I called Verizon and they were not able to find the account. They said Inphonic has been providing customers with incorrect account numbers. I called several times to talk to different people, same story.
When I called Inphonic, they had changed their office hours and are only open until 9pm EST, not 10 as their website indicates. So Verizon can't open the account until I get a number from Inphonic and call Verizon back with it. YOu would think they could coordinate this process themselves?
Great service, price and speed!! by daniopp ,Sep 05 '04
I recently ordered a Motorola v60s from in Inphonic with VZ service. I placed the order over the phone and it was filled and shipped in 36 hours. The only problem is that i live in S. Fla and there is a hurricane approaching so UPS wont deliver the phone untill it has passed. so shipping will now take 6 days instead of 2 but i guess those are the breaks in life. i dont know what all the fuss is about that everyone has had bad experience with them. it seems to have worked fine for me.
Do not order from them worst ever a disgrace to E-commerce by megahertz ,Dec 13 '04
I ordered from them wirefly/inphonic a Alltel phone on nov 26th it took 10 days to port my # from At&t. Then they ported the wrong #. Ok so I lived with that. So 5 days later when my phone arrives it is DOA. They sent me another phone 3 days later with the exact same prob. So now I have 2 dead phones with wrong #. So once again I call and I am on hold for 30 minutes asked to speak to a supervisor she said soon he would be available so every 5 minutes over a 50 minute period she keeps checking back can I help you he is not available yet then I get disconnected. So I calm down for awhile and call again 40 minutes on hold and I am told all supervisors were gone for the day this is like 9pm. Just go to the Alltel store do not be lazy like I was. hope this helps you avoid one of the worst experiences online and i do everything online.I finally cancelled my order got RMA and am I will get my credit card credited minus shipping. Live and learn!
This is the worst phone company and my experience was a nightmare. They send me a different phone which is also defective!!!!.
Finally after a month got the phone I wanted, however now struggling to get to my 120$ mail in rebate back. The period told was 8-10 week. Now it is more than 13 week, Still they say they are processing!!!
STAY AWAY DON'T USE INPHONIC. WORST EXPERIENCE SHOPPING ON-LINE EVER!!!!! by finallyhere ,Dec 01 '04
Lets see. I looked into a ONE year contract with Cingular and it was approved with a deposit. I would not have to pay anything unless I accepted. I decided to leave it alone and go to Cingular in person. TO my surprise INPHONIC went ahead and REGISTERED me for a TWO year CRAPPY contract with AT & T, shipped me a phone (the oldest NOKIA they could find) and welcomed me. AN order I did not place. My credit card was charged for shipping and handling. I had to call AT & T to tell them I never wanted that contract, and then I had to follow instruction just to return the phone (complicated instruction)....called their CUSTOMER SERVICE # that experienced high-volume because their business is so good(but number is just a fake number. No matter what time you call. I had to be on the phone for over two hours to cancel a contract I did not order and to return a phone. Of course they told me to call UPS myself to return the package or to take it in person to UPS. Go get a cell-phone in person.
Cellular choices another InPhonic site is to be avoided. I was ordering phone and headset...changed mind about headset before she placed my order. Headset came anyway and I called to return it even though I was not legally obligated to do so. I was told they would not charge my credit card till it was returned...cc was charged. There was an $9 processing fee on cc bill that was not on my bill. They refunded the $9 then after another phone call was sent notice they were refunding $24.95...headset was 34.95. They seemed to think I should accept the $1 difference and that refunding a processing fee that should not have been there was compensation for all the headache including being hung-up on by a supervisor. I have no faith that the rebates will be problem free now. Do not buy from this company!!!!
I recommend Inphonic to everybody by wirelesswonk ,Oct 26 '04
I have to weigh in. I ordered from them and had a great experience and I recommend them to everybody. You can comparison shop on one site for rate plans from every major wireless provider and their prices on the phones are better than you'll ever find at your local T-Mobile or Verizon or Cingular store. The phone I got was over $100 at T-Mobile but was free from Inphonic. Please note that you are filling out a credit application online! My credit is spotless so maybe that's why my order went through quickly and was at my house the next day.
better than others, but I wouln't order from them again. by liutide ,Jan 17 '05
ordered att service with v505 phone, also request to transfer my old mobile number. waited for 6 days and the order status finally shown as "approved". however, it soon turn back into "processing" again. Call CS, was told that there is no problem. So I called ATT, was told the application was just being sent(6 days after my order!!), att approved my credit. the next day, my current cell phone stop working, as the number was ported to ATT. However, they say the porting will happen AFTER I got the new phone. I really need a phone in the weekend, however, I figure out that I can't get the phone by the end of the week using their 2 day shipping. So I called to cancel the order, I was upgraded to nextday shipping. As promised, I got the phone the next day.
they do not honor anything except your money by parthiv14 ,Jan 02 '06
I made a order for 2 NOKIA 6800 phone, I did not receive my order for a week and when I check order online it said that NOKIA 6010 is on the way. Without my knowledge they degrade the phone and when I called them they said WE CAN NOT DO ANYTHING AND THE PHONE YOU ORDERED ARE NOT IN STOCK. I did fight a lot but after 65 mins of talk they just cut the phone
Inphonic/Wirefly Does Not Honor Their Return Policy by wmuboy ,Dec 14 '05
I bought a wireless phone from Inphonic. When I received the phone, the ringer wasn't working right on it. I contacted the wireless provider AND the manufacturer of the phone. They companies said the phone was defective. I called Inphonic, but they refused to honor their return policy.
I got the phone quickly enough - my nightmare began with the rebate process. I would NOT have spent $200 on my phone if it wasn't for the $150 in rebates.
First, I couldn't port my number over through the online ordering process, so they told me to just order the phone with a new number and port my old number when I received the phone, which I did. Seemed easy enough, and then ... I bought the phone in March and sent the rebate in June (they needed a copy of my second phone bill to prove that I had paid). It's January and I still have not gotten my rebates. They keep making up stories to not give me my money - from saying that I didn't pay my bill (talk about making me ANGRY - I pay all my bills AND on time) to saying that I canceled the service within 181 days (which I did NOT - they told me to get a temp number and then port, so of course the temp number was canceled - my account wasn't!).
They are LIARS and a terrible company. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM.
2007 Federal Trade Commission ruling against Inphonic by newsreporter ,Aug 05 '06
UPDATE: Nearly THREE YEARS after submitting my rebate form, I got my check. Thankfully the FTC finally put a stop to this company's practices.
http://www.ftc.gov/opa//2007/04/soyoinphonic.shtm
If this doesn't keep you from buying a phone from this company, nothing will.
If I used my cell phone solely for complaints to this company, I'd be out of minutes.
The fun began when the phone arrived without the free headset. But then I got a look at the rebate forms. You are required to send in copies of your bills from a certain month, and your rebate must be postmarked within a specific window six months in the future. The company must bank on the fact that most people would forget. I followed the directions to the letter for the two rebates, but they
were both denied. After seven phone calls, I finally received one rebate, but the other was denied because "it wasn't mailed within the window." They were mailed together, so that argument was ridiculous.
As for the free headset, I never received that either.
Bottom line, the deals look good on paper, but the paper that matters (the second rebate check for $75.00) never arrived.
SHOCKING CUSTOMER SERVICE... AVOID AT ALL COSTS by dah917 ,Aug 03 '05
I order a phone from them 6 days ago requesting overnight delivery. I should have received it the next day. I call customer service every day and they assure me it will be sent "within 24 hours." This is a blatant lie. They have no idea what is going on. Their customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. I will NEVER do business with these con-men again.
IF YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS MAYBE YOU SHOULD SKIP THEIR "CUSOMTER SERVICE" LINE AND CALL THE PRESIDENT OF THE COMPANY DIRECTLY AT:
INPHONIC INC.

Rebates take forever, company is sketchy by panthur ,Aug 13 '06
Delivery speed= Fine
Customer Service= Awful
$100 Rebate Status= Took twice as long as they claimed to get it
My phone arrived, working, in a good amount of time. My complaint is that this company, though affiliated with powerful sites like CNet and Mypoints, has bad rebate processing methods. Their customer service is trained to give you a runaround when it comes to rebates. In order to finally receive the rebate due, I had to write letters to the State Attorney General's office and the BBB (incidentally, they have been kicked out of the BBB for poor practices and unresolved complaints). While you may be one of the lucky ones with no issues, be careful with these guys.
This is a horrible company, I had a very bad experience with this company. I bought a Motorola V600 and they shipped me a defective one. I returned it and they shipped me a new one which was OK. I then mailed in my rebate and received a letter from them saying that I had already returned the equipment for which the rebate is applied. I called and told them that I returned the defective one and the rebate that I did was for the new one that they exchanged for the bad one. They didn't do anything with it and I couldn't contact them.
Please do not order from this company, otherwise you will loose your money.
Absolute terrible and hectic experience! by judie802l ,Jul 21 '06
I ordered a phone with them in June 2005 with a $250.00 rebate. The phone is great , my son loves it. However, this is now the end of July 2006 and I have just received my last rebate after going through extensive e-mails, phone calls, BBB,and two Attorney Generals. The Attorney General from D.C is actually suing this company. I would say do NOT deal with this company. This is the web site for the Attorney General from D.C. http://www.oag.dc.gov/occ/cwp/view,a,11,q,636576,occNav_GID,1521.asp
Keep away inspite of unbelievable phone prices, its one of worst companies to deal with, they ran my credit check multiple times and affected my score and also tried to offer $25 gift card for more than $300 damages.
Mail-in-Rebate - a bad joke by abymats ,Aug 01 '05
If at all you decide to buy from Inphonic after reading all these, compare the price without Mail-in-Rebate with offers from other places. Don't count on the MIR. It is a bad joke played on you. You will never get it.
InPhonic AKA Intelenet Wireless is a scam! by andrea043073 ,Nov 26 '05
I ordered 2 phones back in Feb 05, one of the phones didn't work and was replaced. The rebates had to be submitted between 180-210 days of activation. I followed all rebate instructions and received notice in October that my rebate submissions were invalid because they were not post marked between 180-210 days. I know for a fact that they were. So, I got scammed out of $250.00 by this company. I filed a complaint with the BBB.
Fairly efficient. Problem is with the rebate scam. by karibe ,Jun 09 '05
I have never written a public e-mail before, but this company has so incensed me that I was compelled to overcome my reluctance. The rebate aspect of the pricing is a total scam. I think a class action suit is in order, and I am going to look into what it takes to file one.
Useful info for poor ones! Thanks Jsharp! by wizhat ,Jul 27 '05
COOL NUMBERS FOR THOSE POOR SOB's THAT ORDERED AT IPHONIC :)

(Obviously, for new customers this post should mean something, too! :o))))
Do Not Use Them, terrible service!!!!! by ddownes ,Mar 19 '07
The worst on-line experience I've ever had! Sept 2004, I bought 4 phones, each with $100 rebate. March 2005 called to find out where the rebates were, they had been 'lost'. InPhonics was going to expedite the rebates. June 2005, no checks, called again, they had been 'lost in the mail'. Reissued. November 2005 called again, was told the original group handling the rebates had been changed, new group to 'expedite' my rebates. March 2006, same thing, they would 'expedite' the rebates. November 2006, called again, this time I got to the super-secret expeditor center, now my checks were on their way! March 2007, called again, this time, I am only getting $200, not $400 and the check is being 'expedited' !!! I have officially written this fiasco off!
