From the other ratings it seems that people have had either a really good or really bad experience using this site, what with most of the ratings seeming to be either 5 stars or 1 star. Personally I have used Play.com on a number of occasions and ...

Have you ever felt that you were being ripped off when buying DVDs from the high street?? I know I have, and I get great pleasure from buying 99% of my DVDs from on-line stores, and from one shop in particular, that is Play.com. Why Play? ...

I've been using play.com for about a year and a half to 2 years now, and have spent in the region of £700 there. I have bought christmas and birthday presents there, as well as a lot for myself, and out of 60 or so orders I have had problems with 2. The ...

I used to think Play.com were fantastic, always delivering what I ordered usually within 3 days with no problems. However, when it comes to their customer service it's just plain awful. I tried ordering a PSP value pack over Christmas when it was stated ...

I went on to Play.com and looked up 3 DVDs that I wanted to purchase and the price totalled EUR 39.97, so I deposited EUR 40.00 into my Visa account. I then purchased these DVDs, the next day I received an email stating that: "When attempting to ...

Cheap for DVDs, but atrocious customer service.
by moochman26 ,Nov 07 '06
Their customer service is deplorable. There is NO valid contact email address. Seriously. Email to info@play.com bounce with a message "****THIS MAILBOX IS UNATTENDED*****". You have to phone them.
Their helpdesk rep had the nerve to imply that this is to help them deal with queries faster, when it's clearly to discourage people from calling in the first place. Overseas phone calls aren't cheap.
There is no info on when out-of-stock items are due back in. The customer service rep basically told me to keep checking the site. She couldn't tell me if they reorder at regular intervals, or if they wait until they receive a threshold number of orders for a given item, or if they simply reorder on a whim.
They're cheap for DVDs, if the DVD is in stock and you trust your luck not to have a problem which will necessitate contacting their helpdesk.
My advice? Avoid and order from cdwow.com or Amazon instead.

No customer service, rip off Euro conversion
by akodong ,Nov 25 '08
Play.com dispatch their items from the channel Islands and thus avoid charging value added tax. Have bought two items on the Thursday night and it is now Tuesday, with the status still 'order placed'. 4.5 days and the order is still not confirmed. The items were 'in stock' and still continue to be 'in stock'. There is a customer service phone number; but the message I receive: 'This service is unavailable'. This is the only customer service contact method I could find on their site (international call for me) and it is unavailable. Unlike Amazon.co.uk, Play.com do not allow Irish customers to pay in GB£s. Instead the have a € button you press that converts to Euros (at their rate). Play.com's conversion rate for the £/€ is £1 = €1.41. The 'XE' rate is £1 = €1.17 at this time of writing. Play.com keep the extra 24c for every £ spent for themselves.

poor procedures + customer services, would not recommend buying large items
by jonnybecks ,Jan 17 '07
Hello, ordered an xbox 360 bundle and additional games on 28th December when in stock, on 30th had an email to say ring them to check delivvery address for security, and it was still in stock on 30th. On 12 January still no delivery and their website just said 'order taken'. Called them and customer services said, "sorry have no stock you wont be getting your order". Well thanks a bunch for not informing me before, they would not put the same bundle together for me from their stock using non bundle items. Very very poor. The even sent me the games I ordered at the same time as the bundle but no console to play it on!
have ordered from play lots of times on low value items (cd,s games etc) but would not recommend people buy large items as they handle the sales poorly and are not interested in looking after their existing customers. Use their site to get a better price on the high street, which I wish I had done after xmas. The prime exampl eof a company getting too big too fast and standards dropping.
