I bought a reconditioned Konica-Minolta Dimage Z3 from Preferred Photo on 2/16/06. Their price on this camera was the lowest I found anywhere on the Net, and I did several weeks of research before making the purchase. I had no problems in the ordering process, both the salesman and customer service rep I spoke to were polite and helpful. After ordering, I checked some retail reviews and saw Preferred has gotten a lot of bad press. I awaited my camera with a fairly high level of anxiety, to say the least. Well, in my case all the bad press was completely untrue. My camera arrived today in perfect condition, with no hidden charges, with bound manuals and all accessories. I got exactly what I ordered, as a matter of fact it shipped the same day. I could not be happier with this purchase. I would not hesitate to shop with Preferred again. Contrary to almost every review on here I didn't have a problem ordering from them. I ordered a Sigma camera lens for $50 less than anyone else had it. After ~1.5 days I got an e-mail saying that they I had to call to verify the order, which is BS. An hour or two after that they called me to "verify" the order, it was really a sales call.

They gave me some complete BS about how I needed 3 filters for my lens due to its f-stop...WTF? Granted, selling a UV, polarizing & whatever other filter they wanted to sell me for $20 for the 3 is incredibly cheap, even if they're crap, but I still didn't need them, so I just politely blew them off.

A few days later I got my lens, brand new, no hassles at all.

I chose Preferred Photo not for the price so much as availability of a discontinued camera model. I was horrified to see all the reviews and complaints, and as a result I behaved in an incredibly paranoid fashion throughout my transaction: I ordered by phone rather than over the web, declined all "extras" (I was clear and decisive; perhaps in response they weren't pushy), and I called every few hours to check on the progress of my order.

As it turned out, the transaction was flawless: the customer service people always answered the phone -- they were terse but polite enough; the order was fulfilled within 24 hours with a tracking number, and delivered 2 days later; the merchandise was exactly what I ordered.

I don't doubt all the bad experiences reported in the reviews, and I wouldn't be surprised if many of the positive reviews on other sites are of suspect origin, but thanks to treading carefully, my experience was just fine.

Here's the lowdown, I purchased the Minolta DiImage X-1 from their website. After searching for awhile it was the cheapest price I could find on it. After placing my order I received an email saying I had to call them to complete the transaction. This is in part to verify you order (shipping address, etc.) but mostly I think so the salesperson (because that's who you wind up talking too) can push accessories items on you. They told me the battery would only last 30 mins and would take 10 hours to charge!!!! This is not what I found after looking at the specs from Minolta. Then they tried to sell me a battery that would last 2 hours and charge in something like an hour for the regular price of blahhh blahhh....You get the idea, "with us it's only blah....) After saying no then they start with the memory card and the warranty speech. They are extremely pushy, RUDE, and do a good job making you think that they are trying to do you a favor by selling you this stuff.
Be careful with them, there return policy and customer service SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

We shop on the internet and found Preferred Photo advertising the best prices.
Their website is good and easy to navigate. The delivery speed was good and the order was not complete.  We would rate Customer Service as poor and we are very dissatisfied with their lack of response.
We purchased a 32" LCD TV in March 2009 and were required to call  a salesman, who said we needed a TV mount, since this was a "Commercial Unit, without a stand or mount".  We obviously needed a stand and added it to our purchase.  The salesman said if we purchased the stand, it would incude an additional warranty.  We recieived the TV with the stand in the factory crate, (not separately), and did not receive the additional warranty.  To date, Preferred Photo has not return my e-mails, or call to reconcile.

DO NOT BUY from either Preferred Photo, Prestige Camera or Camera Addict!!! They are all the same vendor in different appearance! They will try to sell you thing that you did not ask for while inventing stories like A and C Stock merchandise (two terms that doesn't exist). they will also try to push thing that you do not need in order to make more money over you back. be careful. those who does not believe are more then welcome to call each and one of the above mentioned stores and listen to the SAME VOICE MSG when you press 1 for sales, only in different voices :)

BEWARE! I too got suckered in by the low price, then received an email telling me I had to call and confirm. I ordered a nikon 40x and was told that is only had a battery that lasted for 15-20 minutes and needed to purchase an additional battery. Upon receiving the email telling me to call I got suspicious and found these epinion reviews prior to calling, so I just canceled the order. I'll be watching my credit card statement very closely to be sure. Thanks to everyone else who sent up the red flags. My experience in Dec 2007 was exactly like the others in 06, it's a hard sell scam so WATCH OUT, save yourself the hassle and go to bhphoto.

I ordered a Canon SD850 camera, listed on their site for $243. I got an email back telling me to call them to complete the order. When I called, they told me that I had ordered a "foreign version" with menus in Japanese, a limited-use battery, and an incomplete warranty. They generously offered to provide me with a "US version" of the camera for $289. Of course, the more expensive version is not listed on their website at all, and under the $243 offering, there is not the least hint of this being anything other than the complete US version with full warranty.

Don't buy from this company. Their customer service is terrible. They return policy SUCKS!. They will send you an e-mail for you to call them to confirm your information, when in reality they will put pressure for you to buy overpriced accessories that you not even need for your camera. If you want to return any items that you do not need, they make it really difficult because they include everything in the invoice in only one amount,so you will be forced to return everything. AGAIN, don't buy from them. You are better off going on a drive to the store and just get what you need.

When I wouldn't buy anything else, then they told me I had bought the Japanese import version and not the US version and that the instructions would be in Japanese and there was no warranty but "luckily" I could still order the US version for $50 bucks more. We ordered a digital camera from this company and a salesperson called and talked to my wife a couple days later. He subjected her to an extremely "hard sell" for additional items, such as a protective film for the lens, arguing "you need it or else you won't get good color" (which is hogwash). In the end he pressured my wife into getting a 3-year warranty for $50. However when we received the camera, there was no additional warranty included and instead the price of the camera was increased by $50. We called to complain about the hard sell and not providing the warranty we paid for. We told them we don't want the warranty but they refused so we returned the camera. However we're out the handling fee and 5% restocking fee. I would not recommend this company.

Bad experience. Had I read other reviews like the ones currently there, I would have paid more for elsewhere.

I, too, got the call making the hard sales pitch before they would mail my stuff. I suspected fraud and would not answer some of their questions as I was on the road from a cell phone when they called. They were pushy to the point of rudeness.

Then, we finally got our camera, a few days before our major vacation, and there was an incorrect operations guide in the box- wrong camera, wrong model. My husband voiced a suspicion that it was a rebuilt camera or something. We called a number of times before we got someone, or got someone who could speak English. Six weeks have passed and still no operations guide. I finally downloaded one from the Kodak website.

Would never buy a thing from these guys again. I see I have a notice today that my order from them is in the mail- I don't think so! It must the operation guide after all this time, but of course, no explanation.

Once they had me on the phone, a "customer service representative" tried to aggressively sell me overpriced accessories. He persisted in arguing with me even after I instructed him to cancel my entire order. It took me 5 minutes to get him to cancel the order after I finally raised my voice and used profanity.

This company is completely irresponsible and unethical. Now I have to wait for my order to be delivered so I can go through the foreseeable hellacious process of returning it and trying to get a refund.

I will never buy from Preferred Photo again! Their web site said that the Canon SD600 digital camera was in stock. Before I placed the order the salesperson assured me that the camera would arrive the following day. It was not in stock! I had a terrible time getting through to the Customer Service Department, and when I did, I was switched to numerous rude operators. In the meantime, I attempted to correspond with this company via the e-mail address that they provided on my order confirmation, but the address was bogus. I also tried to cancel my order via an account link that Preferred Photo sent to me, but this too was bogus. Finally, I called and accessed the order line and found someone who said he would cancel the order.

I had a similar negative experience. E-mail to call and confirm order and then the high pressure sales pitch. I was already angry about the hold time on the phone so the sales pitch ended quickly. Upon arrival I was immediately suspicious (box not sealed, camera not wrapped, no warantee card, manual appeared photocopied). Called Canon to check serial # to see if the camera was refurbished. Canon had no way to do this. Canon said it was likely a "gray market" camera, one sold to the dealer to sell to another country, not the USA. Warantee would have to be handled by that country. I see a MAJOR hassle coming when I try to contact Preferredphoto, IF I ever get through to them. Guess the old adage is true: You get what you pay for. AVOID THIS COMPANY!

Called them to order a camcorder that was $130 less than anywhere else. I ordered the camcorder and the saleman said "OK. What else?" **VERY** high pressure sales. After about 5 minutes of a round-about of him saying "you need this too..." and me saying "Nope. That's OK. Thanks anyways", I was told that I couldn't have that camcorder rushed to me because it was imported! Nowhere on the product page does it say it is imported. To have the USA version sent, I'd have to order a package for $130 more that includes an overpriced battery and an unusable extended warranty. At that point, it was the same price as a dealer that I've used several times; I said "Thanks anyways" and that was that.

Someone needs to tell these guys that the consumer has the power in the transaction. The sales people there simply prey on people's general inability to say "No."

DO NOT WASTE MONEY WITH THIS COMPANY. Their customer service is the worst I have ever had to deal with. The Pentax Optio s6 did not come with the software or manual that should come with the camera. It's a repackaged box from Japan with a photocopied manual, which isn't mentioned in the website. I tried many, many times to get the software from the company, and every time I had to talk to the rudest people. They will argue with you, they don't care and will tell you so. Look at other review sites before buying from them, or look them up at the Better Business Bureau www.bbb.com. They are listed. I'm even filing a complaint with the Attorney General of New York, this company is so untrustworthy.

Same as others contacted to validate order was told that battery that came with camera was only 20min and I needed to buy 2 hr battery which was reg $199 but would sell for $125. After adding a couple of other accessories the salesman magically remembered that there was a kit price for $499 only $20 more than I was already spending and I would get two of the 2 hr batteries instead of 1 20min and 1 2hr. I was in a hurry at work and did not research and got scammed. Learned a $500 lesson and am now wiser. Good deals can be found online but not from here. I will say that shipping came in 3-5 days and camcorder works great and my wife loves it the car charger works great and doubles as an AC charger. So I got scammed in price but got the camcorder I ordered so I did not try to return, I figured too much of headache, better to warn others. Have sent email requesting refund on extra battery and extra charger and have yet to get a response. Will never buy from here again regardless of price.

PP had the Nikon D80 w/ the lens I was looking for at a competitive price, and they had it in stock. I ordered it and received a confirmation email and a phone request to verify my address. During this conversation the sales rep started a hard sell to purchase additional items. I opted to get a filter kit and case. Imagine my suprise when I get my items a couple of days later and the invoice reads $4800.00. The camera and lens I ordered cost $1877.00 with UPS 2nd day shipping. I called to return the entire order and was told it would cost me $800.00 for restocking fees (15%, their policy is a MINIMUM of 5%) and shipping costs. (Their charge for UPS overnite was $300.00) I then had to negotiate to recoup some of these costs but was still saddled with cheap accessories at extortionate prices.
These folks have probably changed their name by now but if they haven't, do yourself a favor and stay away.

Dumb me - should have investigated further. This is the second time I tried to purchase on line and went by price instead of fully investigating. They pulled a typical bait and switch on me....."Oh that model doesn't come with a US warranty". Of course I couldn't look at the website while I was on the phone, so I agreed to another $30 for the "US" model. Then when I get my bill the price has gone from $284 to $340. Now they can't seem to stay on the phone with me. Every time I call them as soon as I tell them my order number they hang up.

Terrible. They called to "confirm" my order only to try to talk me into buying accessories and offered to add complementary overnight shipping. After 5 days of not receiving the package, I ordered the same product somewhere else, I returned it unopened as "refused". After a few days of not acknowledging my return, they finally credited my account minus $38.00 for shipping. I called them to complain especially since I was offered "complimentary" shipping and they totally made me feel stupid asking me why they would refund my shipping if I returned the item. I told them they should credit shipping and have turned it over to my credit card company and I am going to turn them into the Better Business Bureau after reading similar reviews.

We ordered a Canon camera from this company a few days ago and of course got the email for the "confirmation call". While waiting on hold for nearly 40 minutes, I decided to look up some reviews for this place since this practice seemed certainly out of the ordinary.

It was too predictable! After reading all of the stories here, it was obvious that the salesman we finally spoke with was on a script. The battery that comes with this camera is bad....the memory card actually has no memory....it's the Japanese model and won't have US cables. After a few emphatic no's and telling him that this camera won't be used in the US at all anyway, we got a terse "enjoy your camera" and a dial tone.

I'm a little nervous now about the condition of the camera when it arrives after reading the other stories, but its too late now. The moral here: don't go cheap. The extra $50 we'd have spent at a more reputable vendor probably would have been worth it.

Well, the Canon 450d price was $100 less than everywhere else on the net. A bit suspicious, I figured I'd give it a shot; ordered, got an e-mail saying to call 1-800-927-0973 Extension 281 "For verification purposes."

Called, no answer, left message. Got call back 5 hours later, super pushy new yorker (probably early 20s) salesman. Convinced me to get 2 extra batteries and charger. When I decided to just get a 4gb SD card instead of the batteries, he said I was wasting his time.

After about 10 minutes of his talking and talking and offering this and that - I finally asked if he wanted to just sell the Canon 450d for $792.00 as stated on the web site. He said, "Sorry, that camera just became unavailable." Hung up.

I immediately called AMEX to warn them to watch for suspicious behavior and I gave them the company name as an extra precaution.

MORAL OF THE STORY, DON'T ORDER FROM PREFERREDPHOTO.COM!

I found the digital camera on their website for $359 which was the cheapest price online. After placing order, I was told that for $359 I am getting the camera with only Japanese manual and settings and if I want English, I have to pay $399. So I agreed to pay $399, shipping UPS ground is free. Well, that's what they make you believe. You place the order thinking that you'll be charged $399 but then on your bank statement you see that they charged $425. I called them and was told that shipping was free and that the extra charge was for handling and insurance. Total scammers. The fact that they are still in business is beyond my understanding.

I made a work related purchase of a CoolPix P1 camera. I should have been suspicious at the price, but eager to save the company money I executed on a purchase. I got an email asking me to call in to "verify" my information. At that time the told me the camera I ordered was Gray Market "as stated on our website." (I defy anybody to find such any such designation on their website!) I ended up spending an additional $40 to get the unit with a "USA warranty." I felt thoroughly abused by the whole transaction. It was pure bait-and-switch. I called to register a complaint and talked to a man who identified himself as a manager, but didn't introduce himself. I was given short-shrift. Reading thru some other reviews, I find my experience was not unique.
These guys are not ethical. Don't buy from them!

This is such an unbelievable scam. I don't know how they are still in business because they use extremely false advertising and offer terrible service. They try to upsell you to an "American" version of their product which is not listed on the website, nor is the "Import" version listed as such on the site. When you call back in to confirm your order, and after trying to upsell you all the accessories, they strongly discourage you from buying the "Import" version, even quoting you extremely long lead times (false) and telling you all the menus are in Japanese and you won't be able to read them (false). On top of the scam, the customer service guy was incredibly rude to me. When I realized it was a total scam I quickly cancelled my order, after which I was promptly disconnected. DO NOT give your business to these people, whatever you do. It is absolutely unbelievable that they are still in operation. The consistency in all of the negative reviews makes it clear this company is a total sham.

When you order a camera they try and sell you extras like batteries. You refuse because the prices are very high. The camera costs $273 the invoice was for $472. If you call customer support the call will not be answered. Waited two days in a row for 5 hours to know avail. finally called sales. The call was answered promptly. When I told the sales rep my problem he told me that preferred changed my order. They gave me a battery and picture card with the camera and it was a good deal so shut up and then hung up on me. I was charged $199 for a battery and card that could be purchased on line for $50 or less. You cannot get a refund. The credit card company only has preferred cameras Web prices to go by. You will end up paying hundreds more than anticipated. When ordering on line you do not get a chance to get a copy of the order. there is no way to prove your dispute with the credit card company.

They then called to "complete" the order, which just means that they tried to sell us 5-6 accessories that would have pushed the price up about $300. Thinking that it might be a good deal, my wife agreed. After discovering that the accessories were grossly overpriced and unnecessary, I called to cancel the accessory package and just get the camera. The sales rep said he could not change my order and that he would have to cancel. I said that would be fine and that I would just reorder. He then tried to sell me more stuff that I didn't need for about 5 minutes. I said no thank you. He said, "Well you obviously think you know more than I do, so we'll just cancel your order." He then hung up on me. I just hope that my order really is canceled. It makes me nervous that this company ever had my credit card number.

HORRIBLE- I was hung up on three times. THey have one person all phone lines. They are very rude and take way too long to process orders. We ended up cancelling and are having are credit card company monitor for a charge so we can contest it.

DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS SCAMMING COMPANY!!! I ordered from Preferred Photo this weekend. Today, they called me on the phone to "verify some information." Instead of "verifying my information," they try to sell you something else. This company runs a SCAM. DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM! THEIR PRICES ARE DISHONESTLY LOW!! They never shipped my camera. Customer service was absolutely HORRIBLE.They were evasive and rude. They lied about the item being shipped. I can go on and on. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!

Preferred Photo is an internet fraud site. Preferred Photoe, BROADWAY PHOTO, A&M Photo, PRESTIGE CAMERA, REGAL Camera, Ghu LLC, DIGITAL Liquidators are all the same scam. Whatever works for them, bait and switch, overcharging, misrepresentation, runaround. Not to be trusted.
