Expensive Little Blue Toy (Part3)!

by wsmunch wsmunch is a Lead on Epinions in Electronics, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Sep 28 '04
Pros: Small, stylish, 2.0 megapixel camera, plays MP3s, records video, can record audio/video through A/V
Cons: The price bracket puts it among spectacular digital cameras and good entry-level digital camcorders
I reviewed the Panasonic D-Snap SV-AS10D and Panasonic D-Snap SV-AV25 and since Panasonic offers a few different D-Snap models I feel I should ...

Small, Powerful, and (sometimes) Discrete

by paulygon , Sep 24 '04
Pros: design, audio player, supplied software, size, features
Cons: proprietary codec, small video resolution, digital zoom
"Wow! Is that a cell phone?" "No, it's a camera." "Oh my god! It's so small! Where's the lens?" "Over here, and watch it flip into the camera body when not in use..." "WOAH!" "It's also a camcorder and an MP3 player." "NO WAY!! THAT IS SOOO COOOOL! How ...

Look past the picture quality, and it's great

by houdini987 , Nov 30 '04
Pros: size, easy operation, nice LCD display, extra fine video mode
Cons: still image quality, delicate, battery capacity mediocre
I purchased a "5-day-old" SV-AV50 off Ebay from a guy who had some sort of new camera fetish. With much anticipation, I finally received the unit and was pleasantly surprised to find it in perfect 5-day-old working order. I've since taken it ...

Nifty styling, but Nonstandard CODEC makes this a poor choice

by memobug , Jul 26 '04
Pros: Beautifully styled, small and light, MPEG-4
Cons: Nonstandard CODEC, low resolution, hard to use pointer
SLEEK and SMALL, Panasonic's SV-AV50 D-snap SD Video Camera's hot styling made me want to love it, but the performance left me cold. This device is one of a new category of video recorders that utilize solid state memory cards rather than MiniDVD tape ...

greatest product you'll ever own
by thewaffle33 ,Aug 13 '04
Pros: mpeg4 jpeg mp3 voice recorder tv recorder really fits in your pocket
Cons: this is not a 6 megapixel so don't expect it to be a masterpiece
when i first saw this product i was just blown away. this product is smaller than it seems in the pictures you might see. this little thing took over my mp3 player, camera and camcorder. it's amazing how much this little thing can do. the photo quality was great. you could also hook it up directly to the tv and record your favorite shows to watch later, or even record music videos to show off to your friends. you can play your movies on your tv also or even display your photos on a big screen. i recommend this product 100% i use it everyday whether taking pictures, recording movies, listening to my music, recording my teacher, or watching my favorite show.

Not bad for $50
by rompn4x ,Jan 26 '07
Pros: small, solid, panasonic quality
Cons: I need to buy a battery
I just picked up one of these lil things at Circuit City for a whopping 50 bucks. I guess it was a return from a different store because the employees said they have not seen it for sale before. Has everything but the battery (which I found for $13.99). I guess for a total investment of $70 total with tax it's not a bad deal.

Out of Date
by ke8yy ,Oct 18 '05
Pros: Small and cute
Cons: Mediocre at just about everything it does. Requires proprietary software.
The SV-AV50 is a very attractive little package, and the kind of thing that's easy to slip into a shirt pocket, ready to capture a quick voice memo, a photo, or a video clip. And when it's not doing any of these things, it's an MP3 player, too. The problem is that it's way out of date.

You can get a much, much smaller (and cheaper) MP3 player for a fraction of the price, 2Mpixel pocket sized cameras with far more functionality are available cheaply, and as a movie camera, the SV-AV50 leaves much to be desired. The images aren't even good enough for full screen display on a 15" monitor, and file transfer requires the proprietary Panasonic software. Once the files have been read by the Panasonic software you can convert them to standard MPEG4 files, but you must use that special software firt. You can't even copy files off the SD card without the Panasonic software- Windows sees them as corrupt.

I bought mine used at a fraction of the original price, and even so, I'm disappointed. Look for it on Ebay soon.

Pricey for what it delivers
by theknack ,Sep 16 '04
Pros: Nice small size, lots of features, none done especially well however. Turns heads.
Cons: Poor video quality, and the stills are only average. Awkward trackball and lens arrangement.
Nice design, very compact and multi-versatile. But I returned it because of the poor video quality. There are nice features MP3 player, PVR mode, digital camera but as a camcorder it has a long way to go. The video quality is about the poorest I have seen when compared to cameras in the $200 range. The rest of the unit is pretty good. Especially great is how you can record TV shows and play it back later on the unit as a PVR. You can get 3 hours on a 512 MB card, not bad! For a gadget person this thing is great, but don't buy it for the video camera feature.

SV-AV50 very disappointing camera
by mcmills ,Nov 25 '04
Pros: Size. Functions.
Cons: Camera functionality makes it useless. Proprietary video formats.
The specs of this product are great. A tiny footprint and fantastic functionality built in. However, I have yet to take a decent picture. Every picture comes out blurry - and that's the still pictures. The video camera's resolution is very poor - it would be alright for small television playback. The zoom function isnt great, very jumpy. The jog control is fiddly. I wanted to love this product. I hate it.
