Pros: Burns data really fast
Cons: Many DVDs burnt by Plextor can't be read on other devices

I've used this burner to backup data but at the end many of the DVDs can't be read by other DVD devices. I've tried using different software with the same result. I'm not talking about a single Plextor, we have at least 5 of them, and all of them do the same thing.

Pros: Quiet, fast, sturdy construction, super easy installation.
Cons: Software package is somewhat lacking.

I purchased this unit 3 days ago and have burned 10 disks. Not a coaster among the bunch. This drive is very quiet and very fast. I've backed up movies in just under an hour (read time + write time). The software bundle is a little lacking however the drive performance makes up for any short comings in software. The install took all of 3 minutes. I use this with DVD X Copy Platinum and am very pleased.

Pros: Easy Flawless Performance - Recommend for any level of knowledge & experience.

For one who has ended up with many coaster burning CD's in the past, I was very gun-shy when buying my first DVD burner. After reading other reviews, I took a leap of faith and got the Plextor PX-708UF. After an easy installation, I burned 2 DVDs and the performance was flawless! I'm convinced ~ this is the best buy!!

I bought this drive about two weeks ago and I do not regret it one bit. The installation was very straight forward and easy to do. The included firewire and usb2 cables were an added bonus. I also like the included stand that allows you to mount the drive vertically if you have limited desk space. I have burned about 20 DVD discs without error. The buffer underrun protection works wonders, I was able to burn a dvd while using my computer at the same time. The included software, Roxio, is a little weak but works fine for basic dvd burning. Plextor also includes a cd with other utilities on it, like a 30 day Retrospect trial. It would have been nice to have a full version of that considering the price of the drive but oh well.

There are many dvd burners to choose from that are cheaper but I bought the Plextor PX-708UF because of the Plextor name. I couldn't have made a better choice. The only reason I am going to give this a 4.5 out of 5 stars is because of the software bundle. If you can spend the extra bucks, GET THIS DRIVE!
