Nice, Clear, LOUD speaker
by frankensuby ,Jan 07 '07
Pros: Clear and powerful while being LOUD Cons: Lack of low frequency handling and protruding tweeter.
These speakers were bought as a rearfill for a car audio project on a 2006 Subaru Impreza. They fit well, with only the protruding tweeters touching the doorcard.
These speakers are great. They have a nice high RMS power rating at 70 watts, and have respectable midbass punch for a 5.25" speaker. What really amazed me was the clarity and brightness of the tweeter, all while being extremely loud. Even at reduced power, they were overrunning the Alpine Type-R components in the frontstage, rated at the same RMS rating.
A neat feature of this speaker is that it has crossovers, even though it is only a coaxial. This allows for your to safely amplify these speakers as a full range with great sound.
The only downside to these speakers is that the tweeter protrudes pretty far for a coaxial. This may create better sound, but it makes it difficult for an install with minimal space.
The speaker also cannot handle real low frequencies at high powers. Look to have the crossovers set at at least 80 Hz if your running nearly 70 RMS to them or more.
