Portable TV - good and bad
by dcygnar ,Feb 18 '04
Pros: big screen, DVD and CD capability, portability Cons: Poor sound quality, loud fan.
I am happy overall with my new RCA 12L500TD. I primarily use it as an under-cabinet kitchen TV. It is less bulky and has a bigger and better screen than the unit that it replaced. The ability to play DVDs and CDs is the big plus. The portability is excellent. The drawback is audio. The speakers with the TV are unacceptable -- very tinny sounding and weak. When used with good earphones or powered speakers, however, the sound is excellent. These additions cost me an additional $115. I wish there was an external rechargable battery option available as well so it could become truly portable. I would like it to be just big enough to power the tv for about 2 hours and as light as possible. The other negative is the rather loud cooling fan that comes on after a few minutes of operation.

Good and Bad depending upon new or used
by truthfulreview ,Jun 07 '05
Pros: 1. Easy to travel
2. Able to plug into a surround sound system Cons: 1. Pixels may burn out through time
2. Not the best sound
I bought this tv/dvd combo used off of e-bay and am overall very satisfied with it. However, with an LCD you take the risk of pixels burning out. The product I purchased has one pixel that burned out and has turned green. The sound quality of this product is not overly impressive, but you are able to use the headphone plug in to plug into a surround sound system with the right connections. (I purchased this connection at radio shack for $10.00). The surround sound system doesn't have to be that expensive either. Anything between 80-140 Watts is great.
