The Canon Pixma iP100 portable printer is an upgraded from earlier versions of the Pixma inkjet printers. The printer now has more ink nozzles, and the resolution has increased to 9,600 x 2,400 dpi color. The extra ink nozzles means a faster print speed and the higher resolution results in a high quality print. It takes 5-color cartridges and has a patented print head technology. The compact Canon printer is only 2.4 inches tall, 12.7 inches wide, and 7.2 inches deep. The printer has a matte finish in silver with glossy black on the side panels and the paper holding tray, which extend out of the printer so your finished prints don’t fall to the floor. The black paper tray holds 50 sheets of paper, so you don’t have to worry about running out of paper when on the go. The Canon Pixma iP100 portable inkjet printer is compatible with many devices, including mobile phones, USB 2.0, and a PictBridge port for printing directly from digital cameras and Canon has made many accessories available for it. It also has IrDA compatibility, which is wireless infrared communication between cameras and the printer. For an additional cost, you can order a Canon Bluetooth adapter (BU-30) that fits into the USB port. This gives you the ability to print wirelessly from any mobile device that has Bluetooth capabilities. There is no WiFi connectivity with this device, so if you need to print via computer (Windows or Apple), then this is one option you need for your printing accessories. There is also a car charger and an external battery pack available for purchase. The iP100 uses Canon’s ChromoLife color inks, and each cartridge has been reported to yield up to 249 pages before needing to be replaced. This is due, in part, to the total number of nozzles, which jumped from 1,088 to 1,856 with the iP100 model. And like most Canon printers, you can save your ink by using to options that are built into the devices drivers: Save Black Ink or Use Composite mode. The former mode reduces how much black ink is used when printing text or grayscale graphics or photos. The latter mode creates a sort of black color out of the remaining color spectrum when you have no more black ink. This is very helpful and allows your ink to last through many printing sessions. Not only does it save on ink, but it does it so quickly; text is printed at 7.12 pages per minute, and photos at 1.09 sheets per minute. You can speed up the time it takes to print photos by manually adjusting the time the printer will take to wait for the previous photo to dry. The ability to print your content on the go with a camera, phone, or computer is a luxury on which you cannot miss. Check to be sure your device is compatible before purchasing this type of printer.
