Soundstream Technologies Corporation manufactures car audio speaker systems, subwoofers, and amplifiers. The company has been the leader in mobile audio engineering for over 20 years, earning over 90 industry awards for innovation and performance. Soundstream’s Tarantula Model SST6.5 is a 2-way or coaxial car speaker with a 6.5-inch driver that features a maximum power handling of 240 watts and an RMS power handling, or measure of continuous power that an amplifier can output, of 120 watts. Two-way car speakers usually consist of a woofer driver and a tweeter driver. The polypropylene woofer with butyl rubber coating is the component that reproduces lower audio frequency sounds that are typical of those coming from a bass guitar or a tuba while a tweeter is the driver that reproduces higher audio frequencies that are typical of those coming from a cymbal or a flute. This crossover, which takes a single input signal and creates two output signals consisting of separated bands of high- and low-range frequencies, is what creates high-quality sound. The speakers come with an external plug-and-play inline crossover that you must use or you will blow the tweeter since it must have the crossover in order to filter out the lower frequencies. The tweeter swivels which is a huge advantage because of the highly directional frequencies that it produces. It needs a "line of sight" to your ears and this line may be blocked with a stationary tweeter. The frequency response range for the Tarantula speaker is 68 to 22,000 hertz. Speakers with a large frequency response range produce the highs and lows of the sound, and you’ll hear a full and complete sound. The speaker is ideal if you have space for a standard coaxial, but want the sound quality of a component system. This high-quality but budget-friendly speaker has black zirconium-coated cones and 1-inch silk dome tweeters that provide sound that is warm, mellow, and refined. The tweeter uses ferro fluid cooling technology. This magnetic fluid is placed in the voice coil gap to conduct heat away from the voice coil. Power handling is increased and the incidence of tweeter burn out is lowered. In addition, resonant frequency of the tweeter is lowered so it can reproduce lower frequencies. This allows a lower crossover point and lower order filters to be used. With 3 ohms of impedance, the speakers boast excellent performance with efficiency, reducing power load on the output device to minimize distortion and excess noise. Lastly, the speakers have typical, progressively slanted surrounds along with detachable grills and gold-plated connectors. The system is wired with no back-up battery. To expand your car audio system, Soundstream carries car speaker accessories and components, such as equalizers, bass processors, signal processors, amplifiers, and wire kits.
