mlaleks's Full Review: Diablo 2 - Bestseller Series for Windows
After a long wait It has finally arrived... Diablo II. The general statement to go along with Diablo II is "It's About Time!", however for those that have played through the original and add on CD the impression will at first be a little disappointing. I mean after all, it took how many years to come out with D2?
Don't get me wrong D2 has all of the things that you liked about the original (You DID Play the Original Didn't You!?!?), along with new monsters, weapons, a wider array of characters for you to choose from, teleporters that make getting around a little easier, multiple towns (as in many levels branched out like a tree rather than just a long series of levels), a "Stash" to save more of your goodies, and a character that accurately depicts your character (remember getting that cool new shield- and your character looking the same as with the old one?) and much more game play (I'm still playing). ... I know, how can all of this be disappointing? Well, it's not- it's just that I expected something a little better considering the time it took to make it! Additionally it would be nice to include some problem solving vs. just slice and dice to get ahead, and not having to have to keep going back to the same areas over and over to get enough skill, or cash to get good enough weps/armor to take on the next level of monsters (remember?). Oh and one more negative- the "Cinematics" sections are very disappointing in quality- more like an old AVI in quality (considering the game calls for a Pentium 200MMX as a minimum they really should have done better).
So the big question is Will I still play it? or buy it again? The answer is Yes and Yes- If the price is right! It's still a good game and a lot of fun to play, but for the $60 price tag I would wait till it was in the $35-40 range if I had to buy it all over.
