My wife and I ate at 13 coins as we were making our way to Anchorage. We purchased two round trip tickets on two different airlines to realize the best possible price for getting from Houston to Anchorage. We ended up with a much longer layover in Seattle this way which was great since it was dinner time.
After arriving in Seattle a couple hours late thanks to America West, who operated the Continental flight under a code sharing arrangement, we got there. We collected our checked bags, pulled off the tags and headed for the Delta check-in counter. At that time, the agent took our luggage, got us top notch seating and told us where our gate was located. We then asked for a recommendation of a good eatery not far away.
13 Coins was identified as being reasonably priced, very good, and near the airport, since it was just across the street from the terminal. We said great that is where we will go. We still had three or more hours before our flight would leave. Out of the terminal and to the eatery we went. Ten or so minutes later we were there.
After a rough day of travel filled with delays and full planes to get us this far, we were glad to get away from the airport for a few minutes. When we entered 13 Coins, we were immediately greeted by friendly folks ready to ensure we had a good dining experience. They even took our carry on luggage and stored it out of the way for us. That was a special touch for me.
We took our seats and were given a moment to settle in before a nice wait staff member came over and offered up information about special drinks and answered any questions we had, such as where is the restroom. She took our drink orders and explained a couple items on the menu. She was back quickly with our drinks. She also brought us some snack food. We made up our minds and placed our order for two different dishes so we could share some of each.
While waiting for our food, we could see the open kitchen across the bar which was just over the aisle between us and the bar. We were seated in a private booth. In fact the walls between booth make the booth great for private business conversations and nice romantic get-away meals. We could see various meals being cooked by the staff of chefs.
We began our meal with salad which was refreshing and tasty. Nothing too special about the salad, it just hit the spot for hungry travelers. Then came our main course. We had bread on the table to accompany our meals. My meal was a great bowl of pasta with a cream sauce and smoked salmon chunks. The smoked salmon was some of the best I have ever tasted. The only rival was at Denali Park, Alaska.
After the meal was finished, we were offered after dinner drinks and sweets. We declined both since we were full. The meals were very big portions so we did not need more food. It was time to pay the tab, which was not too pricey. Then off to see the airport terminal once again.
When I get a chance to spend more time in Seattle, I will definitely be making a stop at 13 Coins once again. It is hard to pass up the good food. Judging by the full house as we left, and many of the diners were dressed up a bit more than we were, I would say this is very popular among the locals in Seattle. Stop in and enjoy a great meal, great service, and wonderful decor.
