gene168's Full Review: The adventure of Cookie and Cream for PlayStation ...
In the world of video games, we often find that there isn't an original game out there. Everything falls neatly into its own category, whether it be a sports game, a first person shooter, an RPG, or whatever else it may be. But The Adventures of Cookie and Cream is not your run-of-the-mill game.
Overview
The Adventures of Cookie and Cream requires two players to work together to get through certain obstacles in order to reach the goal at the end of each level. For example, a river might be blocking Cookie's path; Cream then must pull a lever that raises a drawbridge that allows Cookie to cross. Puzzles often aren't as simple as that, but that is basically what the whole game is about.
There are several "worlds" in the game and each game contains 6 levels. There is a time limit to each level and clocks may be picked up to increase the time limit.
Control
The controls for The Adventures of Cookie and Cream are extremely easy to learn. The game basically utilizes only two buttons, one of which is the action command and the other is the jump command. When playing with only one player, each side of the joystick is used to control each character. Playing with only one player is VERY difficult.
Graphics
Although The Adventures of Cookie and Cream does not max out the Playstation 2's capabilities, it still does an admirable job in creating a lively environment that can be best described as colorfully cute. The movie scenes that introduce each boss level oftentimes are comical and are a highlight of the game.
Gameplay
Although frustrating at times because the game contains many difficult jumping obstacles, The Adventures of Cookie and Cream's co-op factor is what makes the game special. Although you may find yourself screaming at your partner because he/she missed a lever, this is what makes the game fun. There is a certain sense of triumph after you finish each level and the sight of your partner overcoming a difficult obstacle causes high fives to ensue immediately thereafter.
Especially fun are the boss levels, which highlight the creativity of the gamemakers. Example: Cookie and Cream each control one side of a car's wheels. In addition to this, Cream has control of the suck command in order to suck in bombs and he must also shoot them at the boss.
Replay Value
One of the weak points of the game has to be its replay value, because there really isn't any point to repeating a level that is already completed. Although you may want to beat your best score, there really isn't any motivation to do so.
Final Grade
For those of you who want to buy this as a two-player game, go for it! But do not buy this if you want this as a one-player game because it is basically useless in that capacity.
