| kpieri's Full Review: Funjet Vacations |
We used FunJet because the year before my boyfriend had used it and it was fine.
This year they screwed us up all over the place. It started when we got to Cancun and found out that the standard transportation that was suppose to be included in our package as it said so online wasn't there. Luckily they quickly fixed us up so that we could get to our hotel from the airport. We got to the hotel and there were a couple speed bumps with the room not ready, but that was fine because we got there prior to check in time anyway. The hotel upgraded our room for us because of the wait and everything at the hotel was awesome. Not because of FunJet though, we researched the hotel on our own (Melia Turguesa, very nice, I recommend it through a different travel agency though)
When we booked some activities through FunJet the travel agent lied to us about where the company was going to take us diving too, and since I was uncomfortable with the diving, we ended up snorkeling out in the middle of the ocean, where the waves were far too rough to go snorkeling in and we had to swim up stream in very rough waters to get back to the boat because it pulled us so far away. I ended up getting sea sick because the water was so rough and I wasn't the only one. And I grew up near open water, so its not like I am not used to being on a boat in rough waters. I think the main issue here is that when we decided that scuba diving wasnt for us, they said we can go snorkeling instead, which we were fine with, but we thought we were going to a snorkeling reef, not miles from shore lines. They insisted we would be fine and its where they always go snorkeling. Having not done this before, I didnt know any better and went anyway. And the only reason we even took the snorkeling option was because we showed up to dive, so there were no refunds, even though we never even dove in the water. But the travel agent assured us that this company would be much better then the AquaWorld or whatever the other company option was they gave us. She also claimed that no mater the weather that the water should be just fine because we would be protected by the island. But since we didnt go where she claimed we were going it was far from calm. $90 each down the drain just to get put in the ocean, where the scuba divers below us, came up saying they saw sharks near where we were snorkeling.
Transportation to the airport was fine; the guy drove like a sane person, unlike the one that took us to the hotel. And when we got the airport is where our trip went to hell. When we got there and were about to go to the check-in line, the lady stops us and asks where we are flying to. We tell her and she says we need to go stand with this large group of people. We go over and stand there, and find out that there is no flight from Cancun to DFW that day on any airline through FunJet. Turns out.. Funjet's contract with Mexicana Airlines ran out on Aug. 10th.. The day we flew into Mexico. They had three days to resolve the issue AT LEAST!! and there we were.. Roughly 50 people with no flight home. They didn't give us any meal vouchers and just told us to either fly to Austin or Houston, but once we got to Austin or Houston we were on our own to get to Dallas. After 50 angry Americans put up a fight for them to take care of this and get us to Dallas.. They kept giving everyone different stories, about a flight coming in that they were going to get us all on, and they kept changing all their stories around as we stood there in a foreign country, stranded, and they didnt seem to care much. They got the most of us on a flight to Houston and about 20 people from that flight were on a BUS RIDE to the DFW airport from Houston. We didn't get anything from Funjet for food compensation and while in Mexico they kept telling everybody different stories about what was going on and if we were ever going to get a flight to DFW. Also, the bus company supplied drinks for us on the bus ride, at their own expense, which was very much so appreciated. This was not done by FunJet.. Coach USA was kind enough to do this for us.
Basically what they did was booked all these people on a flight that never even existed in the first place and then they thought getting us home 7 hours late with nothing to eat was compensation enough. We should have been in DFW at/around 1:30pm. We pulled up to DFW in a Coach bus at 8:45pm
We were thrown around told lies all day by them, and mind you, there were about 5 couples with very small children on this flight. Tomorrow they will be getting a call from myself, and a lot of the passengers on the flight exchanged personal info so that we can keep in touch with each other.
We booked through the FunJet website, and a lot of the people there booked through a travel agent of their own that used FunJet to book their trip.
After spending the majority of the day with fellow Texans it seems we all had issues outside of our flights home with FunJet and I wouldn't recommend, even to my worst enemies.
Im very flared about this and may have forgotten some things.. But last I checked a vacation is to go and have fun and relax and our trip home ruined everything we did to relax that week. I worked long stressful hours and deserved the vacation like everyone else there probably did, and we all came home more stressed then when we left.
I would recommend the hotel.. I would recommend Cancun itself, and the airline (Mexicana) had nothing to do with the problem. It all narrowed in on FunJet not taking care of their customers like they are suppose to.
Unless you like being lied to and given conflicting stories, messed up transportation and bad experiances on your suppose to be fun adventures.. I would recommend going to somewhere like Travelocity, or pay a little more and book it all separately on your own. At least travelocity now garentees their stuff, and I have flown through their flights a lot and I have never had a flight not exsist.
