| colz85's Full Review: Funjet Vacations |
We may live in the second largest city in Indiana, but getting anywhere from our airport isn't easy. About the only direct flights go to Detroit...not exactly where I want to spend my vacation.
People who live in our city often go to Indy or Chicago to catch a less expensive and more direct flight. So why not do the same thing from Cleveland?
My cousin and her husband have an annual cookout at their home near Cleveland. Normally, we go to the cookout and hit the road for our annual vacation in North Carolina. This year, the NC part fell through, and we thought "huh, let's see if we can get to Vegas from Cleveland directly and cheaper than going from home".
I used Orbitz to search various flights, and was having a hard time finding non-redeye return flights. Finally, I came upon Funjet. According to their website, Funjet has been a family owned travel company in business since 1974. Reasonable price, good departure times. So we booked it. Funjet also offers entire vacation packages, but since we already had booked our room, we just needed the flight.
Our flight to Las Vegas left Cleveland at 9:00 monday morning. We got to the airport the recommended 2 hours before flight time, and stood in a LONG line. However, it was a long line that MOVED. We got checked in with no problems, and went to the gate to await boarding. Boarding was orderly, and the plane even left a bit early, putting us in Las Vegas slightly ahead of schedule. We hit the baggage claim area, grabbed our bags, and heIn flight, there was a movie, pretzels and soft drinks. If you wanted lunch, you could buy it.
Vacation was over and our return flight left at 11:30 Friday morning. Again we got to the airport 2 hours early, stood in line and got our baggage checked and our seats assigned. Again, the plane loaded and left early. A different film and "Everybody Loves Raymond" reruns kept the passengers entertained. Food and beverage service was the same as the Vegas trip, and again, we arrived ahead of schedule.
Air travel is a pain in the best of conditions. But I have to say, this Funjet experience was as smooth as any air travel experience I have ever had. They don't overbook, so there wasn't that nagging worry that despite holding an e-ticket, we'd be denied boarding. The web site is informative, and has a great FAQ section, covering everything from our situation, just booking the flight, to people who plan their entire trip with Funjet. I called customer service a few days before we left to confirm, and the woman who took my call was very friendly and helpful.
