I don't understand why a person going to a poor and unsafe country like BRAZIL wouldn't completely research every aspect of the trip/tour being provided by gate 1.
I never expect a tour company to hand hold me or give me all the information I need to know. I RESEARCH it myself. There are many wonderful guide books with all the information you will ever need to know out there about every single destination as well as a wealth of information on the internet.
The part in the review that really irked me was about the falls and not having raincoats and umbrellas . . . .if they had READ A GUIDEBOOK they would have known they needed these things.

"all of us were seasoned travelers." When you read the rest of this review, this statement returns to your mind over and over again as total bu11sh!t. Are you kidding? Have you ever been out of the U.S. before? you went to BRAZIL. again, say it with me B-R-A-Z-I-L - an exotic country of much beauty and a ton of poverty. Was Gate1 supposed to send a body guard with you? You stayed in a 5 star hotel on one of the most famous beaches in the world AND YOU STILL COMPLAIN? I don't get it - did they force you to go? did they pay you to go? have you ever heard of the country of Brazil before this trip?
"prioritized the incidents that were most traumatic to me and the other Gate 1’s travelers" explain the ranking of the complaints again - worst to even worse? from not getting miles for your flights to a driver loosing tips? you make no sense what so ever.

what the heck does this mean? 'ruded'? 'had to intervended?' what planet are you from? next time you review something you were not happy with, stop, take a breath, take your Valium and begin again.
"we were always waiting for the tour guides and/or the transportation was late" HELLO!!!! IT'S BRAZIL!!!!!
look. you are a cry baby, you are NOT well traveled and i still can't figure out why you expect this company to be accountable for homeless 12 year old children. if you fly someplace and have a bad time, do you blame the airline for bringing you there? you went to see a waterfall and got wet and caught a cold. and it's their fault? you kicked children? what kind of nut job are you? Screaming and kicking? give us a break and keep this whining to yourself. you are what is often referred to as "The Ugly American." "Overlooked other incidents?" what - a hang nail? You are the reason why americans have such a tough time when we travel. please never leave your state or residence again. you're making it worse for the rest of us.
No one cares about your insecurities. If there was a problem with WHAT YOU BOUGHT, tell us about it. that's what this site is for. if you want to cry and whine, call your mommy.

I think your feelings are valid and unfortunately there are plenty of experiences such as yours out there. Being able to voice your opinion is great, however it's just as easy for actual employees of the company who got a bad review to write a fake review with 5 stars extolling and endless compliments. I hope your next trip is safe and enjoyable.

Apparently this guy hasn't traveled much. Crime is everywhere. Gypsies are in Europe, beggars are in cities, IT IS EVERYWHERE and no tour operator and prevent this from happening. It is up TO YOU to make sure you are aware of your surroundings. Everyone wants to be near or at Copacabana Beach - it's one of the highlights of Brazil, again research that you, the traveler should have done. You cannot expect 5 star service from a discounted travel agency.
I have traveled with this company many times and have had the best experience each and every time. World Class Service!!!!

Get the feeling the writer doesn't travel much amigo. I mmean accosted by poor people, rude hotel hotel staff, and hookers oh my.

I'm not sure I put a lot of stock in this review either. Sounds to me like we have a traveler here who wanted a mother, not a tour guide.

RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE (Reply to this comment)

I am student and I was looking for a cheap but safe to trip to Israel. Since I have never been there before I checked the State Department's website and read all of the advisories. When I called Gate 1 to ask them if their guides were up to date with the restrictions and safety tips the customer service guy acted like he didn't know what I was talking about and was rude. I called another time and the rep was very abrupt and vague with his answers which made me feel very uneasy about booking with them. So I didn't book with them, especially since I have been reading a lot of the BAD reviews about them on this website!!!

in catching up with your review.
In truth, I found it difficult to decide how to rate your review - on the one hand, you go into a lot of detail, but on the other, I'm not sure that all of what you blame Gate 1 for, is totally their fault.
It just goes to prove that it pays to independently research a place to get a feel for just what you are letting yourself in for.
