+professional tour director
+value of included hotels and meals
Cons: -disorganized, poor communication from main office
-rushed through included sites
-generally not fun
My husband and I took this tour in July and were disappointed on several points. Let me list the pros and cons:
+The itinerary hit all the spots we wanted to see in the most efficient time.
+Reasonable value for money if not doing the added excursions.
+Tour director behaved professionally
-Globus failed to make reservations at the arrival hotel for the entire group of 50 plus
persons which caused hours of delay for us and worse for those coming in late in the day because they did not leave any information at the hotel whatsoever for those with later flights.
--The Globus arrival office was very disappointing. The woman there had a cell phone but could not call our international cell #, did not know the number of her phone, and accidentally gave us the number to her home office manager who would not help us. They made no attempt to contact other travelers arriving after hours to tell them they would be staying at a different hotel.
-After the above major inconvenience, Globus never acknowledged their mistake in any way or tried to make amends for the inconvenience.
-Our hotel in Edinburgh was downgraded to a Holiday Inn out of the city center. It was several miles out and we were expected to use the bus service or taxis to get in. No compensation for this in any way.
-Globus rules: No reclining of your luxury seats the entire trip. No beverages on coach except water. No eating of bananas or oranges because the smell is offensive? No using on board bathroom unless an absolute
emergency. The director told us they only clean the coach between trips.
-Every day was a rush through all the included excursions so that they had time for the optional ($$$$$) excursions. In Blarney, the coach pulled up next to Blarney Castle (entry fee not included), we immediately paid and went to the cue for the castle. We were 6 minutes late back to the coach and were made to feel like errant schoolkids. We were the only two of 50+ people to kiss the stone because everyone else was too afraid of being late. What the h#@? This was typical of the trip.
-We took two optional excursions and found them to be an exercise in spending added time on the coach. The meal received was no better than the included dinners. The cost of excursions are approximately twice what you would pay on your own (including transportation).
If you are over 65 years you may enjoy the regimentation of this tour but if you are an active adult traveler you will be disappointed.
Definitely not for experienced travelers or those with children/teens.
