| hallucinate's Full Review: 17 Again |
Despite Zach Effron's High School Musical teeny bopper past, this movie has as much to offer as any other date movie or light hearted dramedy. Overall this movie has something for everyone, eye-candy for the girls, realistic divorcee scenarios for moms and points to some very upfront facts of men growing up and never going after their dreams. Although this story is not new I would actually put it up there at the top for best Trading places movie for its realness of life situations.
Young Mike O'Donnell (Zach Effron) is a high school basketball star who has everything going for him when- as life always dose, throws him a curve-ball and he finds out just before the big game his girlfriend is pregnant. What makes Mike such a likable character is his willingness to do the right thing and he decides to take care of the baby. Blah Blah Blah 15 years later time has flown by and older Mike (Mathew Perry) is forced to teach his less than athletic son basketball, a sport he has no interest in. Unfortunately Mike can't relive his past through his son as his marriage is falling apart his stress is through the roof.
Mike (perry) falls through a magical portal n the river he was directed to by an old custodian. Mike(Effron) the comes back in his old body and decides to, what else than to go back to school with his own kids (think Back to the Future). Mike (Effron) teams up with his adult best Friend who is now enrolling Mike into school posing as his dad and hitting on his principal. Mike befriends his own son and is able to spy on his recently separated wife.
The movie plays out as expected but is done in a quality way and is not just hilarious but also fun to watch. The film brings up some interesting ideas about living life to its fullest and don't look back but live for today.
I would say this is a great family film for kids above 12 and perhaps even meant for an older generation x who are now parents themselves.
