Pros: Powerful,comfortable grip, well balanced.
Cons: Cheapo chuck that slips on an expensive drill.
I received this drill a year ago as a birthday present. I was very pleased to receive such a high quality tool: but that was until I used it. Although powerful, the chuck slips badly, even using brand new bits bits into wood. The hardest part of drilling is just before the tip comes out the other side of the material and is where drill bits will catch and the bit will slip in the chuck if it is not held tight enough. That is the case with mine. Needless to say, this is a pain in the butt as I am constantly re-tightening the keyless chuck.I am 6'4" and have a death like grip so I know that it's not me not tightening it well enough. Short time after I received this, I was talking to a pro carpenter down the block who said both of the exact same model drills he was given at work did the exact same thing. He bought and installed after-market key-less chucks on both and now loves the drills. Looks like I will have to spend another $30.00 to make mine useable. On the flip side, my old(old-old) Makita drills (9.6 volt) don't ever slip, no matter how hard the material. I also have older cordless Bosch and Porter Cable 12v drills that do not slip either, but the batteries are getting old and too expensive to replace. Seeing how my neighbor and I ran into the same problems with this drill makes me wonder why other people have not complained about this problem. At least I can share the batteries with my Dewalt 18v circular saw.
