While MTD is not known for making the most durable products, the Cub Cadet CC-500 is a great value. HD had it on sale for $199 and, at that price, there's nothing else out there with as many features. The engine is an OHV type but is NOT made by Honda -- it's a Chinese-made clone. But it starts up very easily and runs great (so far, at least!). Excellent mulching performance, feels quite solid. A bit heavy, but it's hard to find a push mower that is not heavy these days.
I was all set to purchase a Lawn Boy push mower at nearly twice the price. Once I saw this one, however, the decision was easy. Very pleased with performance so far.
Note that you do need to open the choke about halfway to restart it, even if the engine is warm. Not a big deal at all, but if you don't, it is hard to start. Open up the choke and it will fire up on the first pull.
Easy to start.
Nice wheels (ball bearings - rolls smoothly)
Easy to attach bag
Lots of power - does not bog down in even the highest grass.
Easy height adjustment (one lever operation)
Fantastic features for the price.
Not for commercial or heavy-duty use.
As with all push mowers, you burn calories as well as gas!
